Hotel Castillo El Burgo

The Camino has been crazy busy, but I was able to secure a room here by calling. The rooms are clean, and the showers are delightful. The staff is outstanding! It was a real blessing after a day in the rain. It is about a 5 minute walk from town, but it is really convenient for highway travelers. If you need to rest after a long day of travel, great spot to do so.

DO NOT STAY HERE! BED BUGS!!! AND THE MANAGEMENT IGNORES IT!!! I can without a shadow of a doubt say this is the worst experience I’ve had at any accommodation ever. I woke up at 2am and noticed that my skin was quite itchy and I had bites on my body. Initially I suspected a mosiquito however I lifted up the blanket only to find two bed bugs crawling across the bed. I filmed the bugs so I could show the staff. As you can imagine I immediately cleared out my things and went down to reception. Please note: I am aware that bed bugs are a reality if travelling. My intention was never to make a fuss but I just wanted to let them know, and I was hoping they might offer me a refund and assistance with the washing of my clothes etc. At first the gentleman assisting me was shocked and empathetic towards the situation. However after a phone call with his boss he become very rude and abrupt and dismissive insisting that there are no bed bugs and I was making it up. He went up to “check” the room. However he was missing the point that I had bites all over my body consistent with bed bugs and I had a video of the two bed bugs that I saw that I had just taken. The gentleman started becoming shorter and more angry with me telling me I should just go back up to the room and that there are no bed bugs. I of course did not plan on doing this, and insisted there were bed bugs because THERE WERE!!!! It went back and forth for a while, and as the hotel also operates as a 24 hour truck stop I went to sit down at a table to wait until it got a bit later so I could leave (it was 3am at this point). The man came up to my table and told me I had to leave. He wanted to kick out a young girl by herself onto the streets at 3am with nowhere to go. As you can imagine I was very veryupset at this point. I had bites all over me, a bag full of clothes that needed to be washed and a rude staff member yelling at me to leave. Thankfully there was a local woman who was able to calm him. I stayed for an hour but still left at 4am because of how intimidating he was being. I obviously planned to write a review on booking.com as this is how I booked the room. However when I went to do it, they cancelled my booking, (despite me going and checking in and paying cash for my stay) to prevent me from writing a review. Bed bugs are a reality of travel. However an accommodation that turns a blind eye and ignores that there is a problem should not be supported. It just means everyone going to this hotel will continue to get it and potentially spread them to other accommodations. It was room 101 for the record.

Clean! Good staff. Air conditioning takes edge off the heat. But, can barely keep up. And have to keep room card in slot.

This hotel was very comfortable, the food in the restaurant was excellent.
