"Casa García: A Masterclass in Pilgrim Character-Building" If you’ve ever thought to yourself, “My Camino is going far too smoothly, I need a true test of endurance” then look no further than Casa García in Gonzar. This establishment has perfected the art of making guests nostalgic for medieval pilgrim hovels. The showers? I saw cleaner puddles on cow paths as I walked into town. The bunk beds creak and shake about like they were assembled during Franco’s reign, and if you’re lucky enough to sleep through the racket, the little black dots on the mattress might give you a more personal wake-up call. Yes, the thrilling possibility of bed bugs as a complimentary souvenir. Ambience-wise, you’ll be delighted to know the dormitories come fragranced with the earthy aroma of cow manure. Combine that with sauna-like heat and you’ll feel like you’re bedding down inside a livestock barn—which, although thematically is very authentic, in practice, just delivers a sub-40 sleep score. The hosts deserve their own standing ovation. Their rudeness isn’t just casual—it’s honed, practiced, weaponized. The hospitalera has a gift for scolding pilgrims as if you’ve personally offended her by existing, while also ensuring there’s absolutely no flexibility with the menu. Vegetarian? Allergic? Simply not in the mood for whatever mystery stew appears? Too bad—you’ll eat it and like it, or you’ll just sit there being browbeaten into submission. And don’t worry if you miss out on entertainment: the lobby features shirtless locals sprawled unconscious on the sofa, an ever-changing art installation that really elevates the "hostal chic" atmosphere. In short: if you came to the Camino seeking humility, resilience, and a truly unforgettable low point, Casa García is an essential stop. Five stars for character-building, zero stars for everything else.

Likely the best Albergue we stopped at theoughout the entire Camino de Frances. Food was amazing, wine bottles for 3€ is underdog of even on the camino and Isa who runs the show is just great at service! Stay here on your camino

Terrible!!!!!!’ Avoid at all costs. Had a spare private room but didn’t allow to stay in the room because we had a child! After walking 26km, that is the most anti-Camino spirit we’ve seen since we started in Pamplona. No pilgrims are welcome here.

Second stay here. First in Sept 2017 and again this April. One of my favorite Albergues. Superb food, spotless rooms and bathrooms. The Hostess is extremely kind and very customer focused. The chef's ability to turn out large quantities of delicious food is amazing.
