The worst albergue I stayed in on the Camino. The rooms are small and packed with beds. The showers and bathrooms are very old and not well maintained. The clothes drying area is in the courtyard which was locked so when my friend tried to leave at around 5:30 am he could not because he could not retrieve his clothes from the courtyard. At around 10pm a group of rowdy men checked in so I could not sleep early because they were so loud. The common area is stuffy and dark. If you are a pilgrim sleep elsewhere because this place was not built for pilgrims.
We booked a double room and were assigned a room right next to the entrance. We arrived late and left right away to have dinner, so we did not realize until it was too late: IT'S IMPOSSIBLE TO SLEEP in that room. The entrance has a massive door with an automatic door closer. It slams the door closed every time somebody opens it and the whole building shakes. We were trying to sleep right next to it. Obviously, being a hostel, people come and go non-stop. On top of that, we paid 73€ for 1 night in that "room".
Only come here for a bed and there’s no other options, minimalist would be the polite term. Otherwise it is extremely dirty and badly maintained with bad facilities. There’s almost no administration or staff monitoring anything. Shower heads were broken with mold on the curtains. Sinks were not clean. No outlets to be found anywhere but in the bathroom.
Not recommendable. Does not have the vibe of an albergue for pilgrims. There are people staying long term. The travellers have not access to the kitchen. Noisy. A very few safety lockers. No socket close to the bed and or in a safe locker. Stayed the day before in Bilbao in a hostel for the same money that was incomparable. Very nice and with a breakfast included. This place is just taking an advantage of the location and people that need somewhere to stay. Good business for the owner, nothing more.
I stayed at Albergue Santiago Apostol during my pilgrimage to Santiago de Compostela. The hostel offers good service and accommodates a large number of guests with many bunks per room, making it affordable for all types of pilgrims. However, the communal bathrooms could benefit from better cleaning given the high number of guests. The breakfast was decent and the location reasonable. Overall, it's a suitable choice for pilgrims looking for budget-friendly accommodations.
