Bad Management and Bed Bugs We were very excited to stay in this hotel, the space is beautiful and the receptionist who greeted us friendly, warm, and helpful. It was also the most expensive place we booked on the Camino—which have all been higher-end private accommodations. We have now stayed at 16 different places along the Camino, and this is the only one we’ve had a bed bug issue, and our only negative experience with management. When we reached our room, I took a shower immediately and tended to our baby. Meanwhile, my partner did his inspection of the room for bed bugs, which he’s done with every place we’ve stayed and has never found any before or since. He found both signs of prior bed bugs and an alive bug. We immediately informed the woman who works there. The owner then came to the room and confirmed the presence of the bug. They offered us “their best room” instead—the one they had asked if we wanted to pay to upgrade to when we first arrived at the property. The woman said this particular room has never had a bed bug issue, while the room we stayed in has had past issues. However, we did not feel comfortable staying in the hotel given what we’d found, especially with our baby. It is a matter of health and safety and not worth the risk. We also noted that the establishment did not use full encasement covers over their mattress, like many other conscientious establishments, even though there have been past instances. We requested a refund, as we had to rush to find another place last minute, but the owner refused, insisting he had done his due diligence by offering us a different room. He kept emphasizing how nice this upgraded room was, how the other hotels in town were not as nice as his hotel—totally missing the point. Sure, the decorations are nice, but hard to appreciate if you can’t sleep, fearing for bed bugs. Mind you, this upgraded room was on a platform bed with items stored underneath the bedframe, impossible to inspect thoroughly—but irregardless, finding a bed bug is reason enough to not want to stay in an establishment and to receive an immediate refund. He also insinuated that WE were to blame and brought the bugs ourselves, even though we had just arrived and the bug was deep under the cover of a mattress. I see now, having read his responses to negative reviews of previous guests, that he has done the same in the past, accusing them of being ignorant about the issue or bringing the bugs themselves. We left in such a hurry, we left our baby wipes, which the hotel complimentarily sent us at our next hotel. The problem was not the bed bugs—we know it happens, it’s a common problem on the Camino—the problem was this owner’s dishonorable reaction. It is regrettable to have to take this story public, as I was hoping to sort out the issue with the manager privately, however—his egregious management and manipulation, blaming it on us and refusing to offer a refund, makes it imperative I share with others. I imagine based on past behavior he might write some spiteful hex of a comment below, attacking my character, denigrating my soul, asking how I sleep at night. I sleep well, thank you, when there are no bed bugs. I would advise you, potential guest, to not only consider my experience, but take some time to read how this hotel owner responds to negative or even mixed reviews, and make the call for yourself whether or not you want to support this particular establishment. We have had such a wonderful experience so far on the Camino, with such gracious hosts, and I would hate for your experience to be soured.

The house is beautifully designed, with rustic charm and great attention to detail. The room and the bathroom looks stunning, and the host was kind and welcoming. Unfortunately, all these positive aspects were overshadowed by a very disappointing accommodation experience. Our room had no windows that could be opened, which, combined with the heavy construction work going on right next door (bulldozers, jackhammers, dust), made ventilation absolutely impossible. At one point, we had to leave the door open just to be able to breathe. The small bathroom window was at street level, right next to a restaurant, without a screen — impossible to open without the fear of insects, animals entering, or being seen while showering. The mattress was new, but extremely soft and unstable — both of us kept sliding into the middle like in a pit. Between the continuous noise, lack of fresh air, and the uncomfortable bed, we couldn’t rest at all — not during the day, and not at night. We left at 6 a.m. for a 22 km Camino stage after having slept at most 2–3 broken hours. We understand that the construction isn’t the owner's fault, but charging €120 per night under these conditions is simply not fair. A temporary price reduction or at least a clear warning would have been appropriate. This property has potential, but I strongly advise against staying here until the construction is over and proper ventilation is ensured in the rooms.

A magical hotel in O Cebreiro, a warm greeting with a fire and snacks, the best shower on the whole Camino and a spectacular wooden room

Small, quaint hotel in O Cebreiro, with recently renovated rooms. The rooms are quite small but decorated with taste. Bed is very comfortable. Prices were very high end of September as this location is on the Camino Francés and there is little accomodation offering near this location. It's important to notice that payment is cash although we booked through their website and secured deposit with a credit card. This should be notified more clearly to customers. The owners are very nice and serviceable.

Generally very good place to stay, probably the best (and the most expensive) from the few we can choose in this small village. Felt luxurious after days of walking the camino and staying at albergues. It was surprising to wake up and find a BEDBUG in my bed. My friend also found one and got bitten. I know that on the camino route places have a problem with them due to big rotation of guests. I can assume that it was a new problem for casa anton and i hope that they will quickly get rid of it.
