2 / 5 This albergue in Palas de Rei is also run by the Xunta de Galicia, and honestly… they’re all turning out to be a disaster. It’s supposed to have over 60 beds, but for reasons unknown (even to the poor hospitalero running the place), they’ve decided to block off an entire floor. So 20 something beds available at the end.
The only upside here is that the power outlets in each bunk actually work — a luxury compared to other Xunta hostels. But that’s where the positives end. Not a single coffee mug, no kettle, just a microwave as your only option to heat water… which is pretty useless when there are no cups, pots, or mugs to use. With the money the Xunta has, this is ridiculous.
Dead flies stuck in the windows, hygiene that barely passes, and overall a very cold, unwelcoming vibe. Zero pilgrim spirit. Honestly, I’ve been more comfortable in random donativos than in these big, official places. Really disappointing.
5 / 5 The receptionist helped me a lot to find other available albergues. Muchas Gracias!
3 / 5 Clean and modern facilities. However in the kitchen there are no pots/pans, plates or utensils which is disappointing (especially given there is a stove in the kitchen…?). No blankets but heating works very well.
3 / 5 It's cold.
There is a lot of going up and down through the stairs to go to the toilet, showers and washing area, which is not ideal after the long walk
A blanket is not provided. Only disposable bed sheets..
From the other side it's very cheap, so you get what you spend, and the Juan at the reception was very kind
2 / 5 The water at this albergue is yellow tinted with black spots. Would not drink.
No wifi.
Kitchen did not have anything available for use.
Beautiful place with very nice showers but other guests and host made this an extremely unpleasant stay. Host did not enforce keeping shoes out of the sleeping room. Guests proceeded to heat shoes with room radiators that are located directly next to beds. Which after a rainy day made the already extremely hot room, hot and smelly. Host would not allow windows to be opened while heat was on.
Smelly and hot. “It’s an albergue” says the host. I have never experienced such a careless host like this.
Pro: has heat.
