Absolutely my FAVORITE albergue on the Camino. The sweetest hosts, freshest food straight from the garden, beautiful chestnut liquor, homemade wine, stunning views, all worth it with the 8km walk uphill. Just a heads up there are no benches or water fountains on the way from Villafranca, but this way was worth it. I had the most amazing dinner and breakfast here. Could not recommend it more.

Very peaceful place and great hosts and home made food. It was the best for me, felt like home. They really care about you. The hike up is very beautiful. In the beginning of the ascent, there are local lady’s who try to talk to pelgrims to not take this route. They say it’s dangerous. This is bullying against this albergue. This route is not more or less dangerous than any other routes in the mountains. I’ve hiked and stayed here twice and it was always fantastic. The beginning is steep, but after 30 min it’s just great

Fabulous experience! If you opt for alternative route into the mountains (highly recommended), don’t forget to check out Albergue Lamas. We stopped by for a cafe con leche, greeted by the owner with the biggest welcome and smile. Ordered lots of items from their unique menu, of which the ingredients are locally produced!! Tried the spectacular chestnut cake, yogurt with chestnut and chestnut liquor!!! The family also collect shells from their travel around the world and made souvenirs! One of the best cafe stop on the Camino.

All in all, just an amazing albergue. We stayed here the other night, with only four people in total. Warm and welcoming hostesses. The meal is with homegrown vegetables and wine from their own fields. They do everything they can to make your stay better, and even though we know close to no Spanish, they try to explain it slower or with gestures, instead of getting frustrated. Few people take the alternative route up the mountain, but it’s a shame. This village was lovely and the tour was beautiful. Why not enjoy your Camino, instead of just rushing on? It definitely gets five stars from Denmark. (PS. take a piece of chestnut cake to go. It’ll do you good when you reach the climb to O Cebreiro)

The dinner was heavenly—delicious food enjoyed in the perfect stillness and quietness of the mountain village. The proprietors were very friendly and I was able to arrange coffee for the morning! This was one of my favorite stays along the whole Camino so far.
