I only had dinner in the restaurant, so I cannot say anything about thr rooms. But the restaurant was fabulous! We went with 6 people (pelgrims) and were treated to the most friendly service and most delicious meal of the whole camino. 4 of us had the pollo al ajillo, which was so juicy and rich, and one person took the lasagna and the salad with cheese because he was very hungry. He finished everything so fast and we were all full and happy. The lady serving and the cook are so genuinely friendly and love what they do. Go there for dinner you will not be disappointed!!
overall, better in reality than what prior reviews made me believe Albergue: -check in starting 1pm w moderate wait within attached restaurant which i heard just reopened today -15€ bunk bed w/ pillow, sheet, blanket provided. room/bathroom seems very clean -6 ppl + 1 bathroom + heating in room though seems weak -very quiet -no kitchen (host said if id like to heat smth up, i can borrow their microwave in the attached restaurant) -some water leakage from shower onto bathroom floor, host made aware -room light seems to turn off automatically every so often / turns back on with motion -wifi is okay, worked from my bunk bed for most of the night Restaurant -28€ got us 2 beers, 2 chicken soups, 1 hot chocolate and 1 plate of (delicious) chicken that comes with salad, bread, and potato chips. this restaurant meal was much better value than any "pilgrim meal" ive had and i didnt even have to leave my albergue -while non english speaking, very friendly hosts who seem to know the locals well. as pilgrims, it was nice to see locals getting together and brightening the atmosphere of the restaurant -not open for breakfast it seems
AVOID! Worst Albergue of The Camino so far, and by a wide margin: • Diabolic check in with a host who kept haranguing me in Spanish even though it was evident that I could not understand her • Check in was at a restaurant 250m up the road with no signs suggesting that was the arrangement. As check in was in a restaurant, host was far more interested in serving the customers than me and left me standing at the counter for 15 minutes while she served each new customer as they came and went • Room is cramped with 8 cots/bunks when it would be crowded with 6 • Only one bathroom which is bathroom and shower so the wait to use the facilities was always long • Hardly anywhere to hang out laundry to dry with the place looking more like a Chinese Laundry than an Albergue by the time everyone had done their daily wash • Wifi is slow and does not reach the dormitory In simple, just awful, AVOID
Basically based on frozen food (eg paella) given too much time in the microwave (you might burn your tongue). Service harsh and gruff. The most positive thing that can be said about it is that it beats the hygiene and hostility of next-door Elvis bar, but that isnt saying much. Sadly lacking in food options, I would recommend giving Reliegos village a miss and proceed to Mansilla de las Mulas - a larger town not much further down the line, where we had an excellent breakfast
Dont order toast or anything with bread, bread is old and stonish. No soap in restroom (not even dispensers!)
