Best Chrismas evening ever with the locals as solo pelgrim 🎄🎅 While (or because 🤔) the rest of Samos was closed the evening of 24 Dec. this bar comes to live. The Brazilian bar ladies handed out free tapas, card games were being played and with temper yet in a friendly manner 'discussed' and the music was playing. It seemed to me that half of Samos walked into the bar for a drink or two on Christmas eve to have a great and lively time with old friends. As a foreign solo pelgrim, and most likely the only pelgrim around that specific evening in Samos, I couldn't have wished for more than the happy times here.
After walking all day on the Camino de Santiago, we looked for a good restaurant. We walked about 5 minutes from the hostel we were staying at and sat on the terrace. It was very nice and clean. Our server came out with the menu and was very quick to take our order. The food came out quickly and was very delicious.
I stopped by for lunch after a cold rainy hike. The delicious lentil soup and bread were exactly what I needed! The hostess was very courteous and friendly. We were fortunate because that Saturday night, live music with singing, dancing, bagpipes and accordions was playing. We had a great time!
I woke up at 2am to find a bed bug in bed with me and another one crawling up the wall. Never got back to sleep. Killed about a dozen bed bugs before I got creeped out to leave about 5:30am in the dark. Also the downstairs bar/restaurant is very noisy. Singing and then the bagpipes began going on past 11pm. Not concerned about pilgrims on the Camino De Santiago wanting rest/sleep. Avoid!
BEWARE OF BED BUGS. I originally was put in room 1 and my friend was put in room 2. I found signs of bed bugs and then an actual bug, alerted the staff. The owner killed the bug, confirmed it was a bed bug and said I could stay in room 3 or look for other accommodation if I preferred. At no point did anyone of the staff apologize for the inconvenience to me. I called around town and nowhere had a bed available so I had no choice but to stay, against my better judgement. Shortly after moving my things into room 3, I found a bed bug in that room as well. Later, I noticed they placed two newly arrived pilgrims in my original room 1 where I told them there was an infestation. Super poor cooperation and acknowledgment of the issue and super poor practice to place other folks in that room without taking any action to fumigate… Do not stay here.
