I asked for a glass with two ice cubes, as I had my own drink. But the waitress charged me 2 Euro. She was also insanely rude to the rest of my group. AVOID AT ALL COST.
I don't understand some negative comments on here. If people expect 4 Seasons service and rooms for little money they need a reality check. My room and breakfast bill came to E30 and was happy giving E50 for it. Hot water evening and morning. Soft towels. Quiet main street so I left the balcony door open all night and wasn't woken. I did eat at the Oasis bar along the road though. 12 chicken wings and fried potatoes with cream and spicy sauce for E8. Owner was a pleasure to deal with as were the staff. I wish there were more places like this along the Camino! Thank you.
Excellent value for money! Clean room, great bed, good food and great wine for an unbelievable price. And they’re so friendly. Can’t fault it. I’ve read some bad reviews but they’re rubbish, why complain about the location? It’s a little way out of town, quiet and peaceful. If you don’t want that, go to town and pay the price. What do you want for 35 euros a night including a three course meal and a bottle of wine? Some people eh?
I spent two nights at Hostal Juli and I'm glad I decided to take a rest day in San Justo de la Vega instead of in Astorga. Not only was it cheaper, it was also more peaceful. My double room with a private bathroom was on the second floor. It featured a real double bed, which was a nice change from the usual twin beds. The room was spacious, with a desk and a small balcony. Wifi works well downstairs in the bar or the outside terrace, but the signal might not reach your room on the upper floor. The staff were friendly and the food was very good. I had two breakfasts and two pilgrim dinners at the hostal and all my meals were tasty and offered great value. Drinks are also inexpensive, so I indulged in quite a few sangrias! A very nice Camino stop for anyone wanting to stop before Astorga.
I'm afraid I can't recommend this place. The main issue we had is the location. There were virtually no options for eating nearby and we were forced to eat the pilgrim menu at the hostel itself. We didn't want to because quite honestly the dining room was filthy. There were pieces of food, napkins, toothpicks, etc., scattered all over the floor. It was hard to understand why since we were the only customers and it was a very quiet Sunday afternoon. The pilgrims menu was easily the worst we had in six weeks on the Camino. I would also note that they advertised having a washer and dryer that they did not, in actuality, have. On a positive note, the room was clean and comfortable. Overall, I would suggest going a few more kilometers to get to Astorga rather than staying here.
