Albergue Sansol

As a vegetarian, I was super excited to hear that the family dinner of paella would be prepared veg, the chicken added later. I double checked with the host upon arrival, and he reiterated that it would be veg with chicken added later. When it was time to eat, even knowing I needed a veg meal, he decided to add the chicken to the top for photo ops. Then he decided to stir the chicken into everything and then scoop out our food. I feel he did this on purpose as I’d specifically asked!! I literally cried. There was no where else I could eat and I’d paid a lot of $$ for my veg meal. This alone made my experience awful. My friend finding hair in her paella added to this negative review, as well as the broken shower that couldn’t reach my hair. There were some good things-the outdoor space was lovely. The beds appeared clean with no sign of bedbugs. But with the lie about having veggie food and purposefully stirring in the chicken, I was extremely disappointed. It would have been sooo easy to scoop some out for veggies first, then add the chicken, as well as told to us on the phone. 😭 Edit: thank you to the owner for the quick response. I’d like to clarify a few things. I called first and was told the broth was veg and they would get the veg food out before adding chicken. I speak Spanish as did the person answering the phone. I also had a friend I was with who was a native Spanish speaker double check upon arrival and it was reiterated that my meal would be taken before adding chicken. I don’t understand the language issue you mentioned? And now it sounds as if the broth was chicken as well? Even though I was assured it was veg. I’m very disappointed! This person responding says that I should have talked to the establishment before reviewing-I did. Twice before arrival and then after getting the food mixed with chicken. They said that my food was fine and no one ever complained, so no, they did NOT offer anything veg. I think maybe there have been no complaints because people don’t realize you are lying to them about the chicken and chicken broth being mixed in. I will be posting this information on the many veg Camino groups that I belong to so that they are no longer misled. Please, continue to pray for me as prayers are always appreciated. And I will pray for you as well.

This was a brilliant stop on the camino in Sansol. The host Ivan was very welcoming and helpful! He cooked a delicious dinner and played some great tunes on the guitar afterwards. Hostel was good, I missed the hot water part of the day but that’s typical in most albergues! Would recommend.

Beautiful space, amazing food. The guy who runs it was so nice. He comp’d my dinner when it was too expensive so that I could join everyone else.

This albergue is in a very tiny village, where everything was close. The dinner was very good, and the place was also nice, but the bed was very uncomfortable.

A lovely albergue, good bunks (can sit up on the bottom bunk without hitting your head), lovely garden, big group paella for dinner! Ivan was genuinely lovely, a very generous and welcoming host. Best albergue of the Camino so far.
