We stayed there for the last 2 nights of our Camino and everything was perfect. It may not be the most modern/renovated hostel we have ever stayed at, but we strongly recommend choosing this because a) it's clean, b) there is a small kitchen to store your food if needed, c) beds have curtains which really make the difference, d) ergonomic pillows and e) Luca is an incredibly nice and warm host - he made us feel at home and shared his recos on how to make the most out of such a beautiful city. Also, the hostel is in a super nice area, 10mins walking from the most crowded areas, and close to very nice bars and a supermarket.

This hostel is awesome! The beds are comfy, and the bathrooms/shower are clean. Luca, the guy working there, is super nice and helpful. He gave us tons of tips on what to see and where to find the best food. I'd stay here again just because of him!

AVOID. I had one of the worst experiences of my life at Albergue Porta Real, a really awful way to end the amazing experience of completing the Camino Santiago. I would NOT recommend the Albergue Porta Real to anyone, especially to those who plan to end their Camino Santiago there. Treat yourself to the comfortable rest you deserve. Stay at the Albergue Seminario Menor instead, 4 euros more for a PRIVATE ROOM, at a real, professional and clean albergue, with so many convenient services and amenities. After completing the Camino Santiago walking the last 25km in the rain, I arrived to the Albergue Porta Real in the late afternoon soaked and tired, entering a receptionless property, with a terrible layout, uncomfortable and dirty reception & kitchen area, as well as bathroom and shower. Due to a misunderstanding (and not having a receptionist on site) I had mistakenly took the wrong bed -which was free-, and the next morning was woken up aggressively by the receptionist/ manager named Luca, who shouted and humiliated me for making the innocent mistake of taking a free bed. Instead of seeing this as the honest mistake which it was, he tried to 'educate', and belittled me, and ended up canceling my reservation for the second night so I had to pack my wet clothes under his aggressive pressure and move with tired legs instead of celebrate at the cathedral with my friends. Luckily I moved to the Albergue Seminario Menor, at the recommendation of my friends, where I ended up extending my stay in Santiago as it was so comfortable.

Luca makes this place have a much higher rating than initially thought. The beds are comfy, there is no hanging out place but you're close to all the restaurants and pubs in the area

Everything was very good. Luca, is extremely helpful. He makes sure you are comfort. The place was very clean. I had few nights of very good sleep and rest. The next time I will be in Santiago, I will go back to PortaReal. Thank you again!!!!
