Nice rooms and communal sitting area with tea, coffee & small snacks available, great location. The shower area was a very small corner separated from the toilet by a curtain that if a little longer might have prevented the floor around the toilet getting so wet. The street outside was a bit noisy at night but overall it's a nice, clean and comfortable place to stay, close to the centre of Santiago and at a good price.
Great location, just few minutes from Catedhral and to train station. Nice and clean rooms. Good breakfeast for 4 Euro. Pleasant staff and very good communication. Second time here and always best service and good value. And a heating is on. Jan
Very friendly staff and easy to get into even during hours after check in time. Very cozy rooms and funky decor, nice refreshments at disposal all the time. Very centric and super close to some main sites.
I do not recommend Hostel Mafer. They kept the money for a service they didn't provide of someone that got seriously sick (and they received the hospital papers to prove it). RESUME: We made a last minute reservation with them the sunday night before the stay (it was already quite late), because we were in Asturias and really wanted to go to Santiago de Compostela catedral, but early in the next morning one of us got very hill and we had to cancel everything and head directly home to head to the hospital. We let them know immediately and cancelled the reservation so that the room could be available again (it was booked only for one short night). Already home and after the situation was stabilised, we sent the hospital papers requesting that they accepted the cancellation and refund. First they didn't even replied. Eventually they did after some emails and messages, and they refused saying it was a non-refundable reservation. We consider they were moral and ethically incorrect, and were very disappointed and upset. It is not correct to take money from someone at that person's health costs. The criteria here is money, only money, not people. We consider this as stealing. They kept the money for a service they didn't provide of someone the got seriously sick. It's just plain wrong. They should be ashamed.
Lovely place with friendly attentive staff. Very clean and pretty centric. It was my second time staying there and it will not be the last.
