Hotel Alfonso IX is located along the river Sarria, just at the foot of the old town's hill. It brands itself as a 4-star hotel but lacks some of the standard features of such ranking, like bathrobe and slipper and a basic supply of amenities and toeletries (we even asked reception for a simple sewing kit and it wasn't available). The room was very large and well designed, with also some cool design detail in the bathroom, itself very big, but the shower head was defective and the level of cleanness needs to be improved. The breakfast was a negative experience, with an acceptable buffet but an inaccurate service, with only two waitresses tending to far too many customers, hence they were stressed, inefficient and rude. An acceptable place for a night in Sarria considering the large room, but definitely not a real 4-star hotel!

A very ugly looking hotel form the outside, inside open areas not much better; however our room was SPECATULAR. Beautifully decorated suite, 2 bathrooms, walk in wardrobe. However very expensive, staff in bar SO SO rude; should not be dealing with the public! Front desk eventually warmed up after 2 days staying; I think everyone is over worked TBH. location good, but I would probably stay in old quarter if staying in Sarria again.

Very nice hotel and Sara at the front desk was most helpful. The restaurant service was terrible. My colleagues and I sat ignored while all others were waited upon. Just shameful and so very sad for a hotel of this calibre.

Reception welcoming. Bedroom clean, the bed was comfortable. Bathroom a trip hazard as a bidet in front of the door! Very noisy, I could hear people talking all around my room. Used ear plugs to sleep. Dinner was Menu of the Day and food and service was excellent. Breakfast was buffet style and limited.

The room we stayed in was nothing like the pictures displayed on their website. Our room was dated - dirty upholstery on chair, no artwork/wall coverings, curtains falling off rod, missing chair/bench for desk area, and only one towel provided for two-person reservation. This hotel was our most disappointing stay on our 33-day Camino de Santiago experience. We stayed in a range of accommodations, the disconnect between what was shown and expected and what we experienced was significant. Not what we wanted as we set out for the final days of walking. We truly wondered if they purposefully give certain rooms - their worst rooms- to pilgrims. After arriving and being so disappointed, we went back and read reviews more thoroughly. It was clear to us now that others have had this experience, and the staff/management are not interested in doing better. My recommendation would be to find some other place in Sarria - the start or a big stop on the Camino - to stay.
