The host stared at us the whole time when we checked in. And she asked us why we didn’t understand Spanish when we are in Spain. When she was registering us, she gave us a lecture as to why we weren’t there when she was talking to us. We merely took a few steps away to read some of the information about the Albergue. She was also speaking Spanish the whole time, and we didn’t understand what was going on. The other reviews mentioned dinner and wine but she just told us there was no dinner. The Albergue wrote that curfew is at 10pm and we arrived at 9.45pm after dinner and some drinks. We rang the bell and the host got super aggressive with us, telling us that this is by donation and we should respect it. But, we did! We were willing to give a donation. She literally threw us out and pointed her finger into our faces and told us not to behave like “indecent foreigners”. We are asians and we get red after 1 drink but we were not drunk. So we were like okay, let us get our bags, we can go somewhere else and she got physically aggressive, refused to let us take our things and pushed us. The other Albergue that we stayed in told us that this is not the first time it happened. We understand that this is by donation and is willing to donate, but the whole time she treated us as if we are freeloaders and want a free stay. We came because the other donation Albergue in Grañón gave us an amazing community experience. And it was something we enjoyed and will like to work towards for other pilgrims. Unfortunately, the host, her name is Billie, was totally racist and against foreigners.

I was present to an event where my friends were kicked out of the building for arriving at 9:42pm. The doors locked at 10pm per usual like most albergues. They were originally not allowed to get their things from upstairs but they allowed me to get their things for them. They were physically touched to prevent them from walking inside and getting their things. Lots of pointing, raising voices and overall unprofessional hosting. Spanish was a new language we were learning at the time and most likely was some miscommunication. A local person informed us that other people have been kicked out and is a normal thing for this place. Very sad, upsetting and traumatic experience.

Very nice hostel. Not full and you make a donation instead of a few. The donation covers a bed, and evening meal with wine and breakfast. Plenty of hot water and blankets. Great hosta

We came here with our dog, hoping they would let us in. They let us put up a tent in the garden for the dog and we were able to sleep inside. After initial problems and complications, the workers turned out to be warm and welcoming.Cold showers, no kitchen, but they have a water cooker, simple breakfast. All is donations
