If you come to Villafranca del bierzo, stay in the Hotel San Francisco. Aside from their affordable rates and infectious hospitality, you will feel as though you have stepped through a window to a past elegant era...one with wood and brass, and men in suits and women dressed to kill. The people are no longer alpear this way but but their hotel and bar does. Stop in for a weekend...you won't regret it.
It's very central to everything,
A larger than average double room. Very clean facilities and top-notch staff attention. The manager took the trouble to highlight all the attractions of the city on the map he gave me. The views of the rooms overlook the city center square and right next to the hotel is the Church of San Francisco that makes up the circuit of the 7 Churches that are worth visiting in this beautiful city. I will definitely stay there again on my next visit to Bierzo.
Don't go if you're going for tourism. At most, stay here if you are doing the Camino de Santiago or plan to get up early, because you will not be able to rest after 7:30 - 8 in the morning... The hotel is old, without pretensions. The walls let in all the noise: we woke up scared at 8 in the morning (after having a very good dinner at Don Nacho, by the way) thinking that water was falling in the room; It wasn't that, it was the noise produced by the shower upstairs, completely thunderous that, apart from waking us up, didn't let us rest before a day in Las Médulas. In general it could be cleaner, especially the bathroom. The hotel staff is very friendly. Good views of the entire Villafranca square. The wifi works well. Good temperature, radiator and blankets in the room. New and comfortable mattresses. The rest of the elements of the room and the hotel need renovation (many broken tiles in the bathroom).
Simple hotel, good condition, without elevator. Clean, small rooms with only 1 plug, no air conditioning. Clean bathrooms, without soap or shampoo. WiFi, cafeteria. Unsupportive prices, double room €50, breakfast €5.
