If you come to Villafranca del bierzo, stay in the Hotel San Francisco. Aside from their affordable rates and infectious hospitality, you will feel as though you have stepped through a window to a past elegant era...one with wood and brass, and men in suits and women dressed to kill. The people are no longer alpear this way but but their hotel and bar does. Stop in for a weekend...you won't regret it.
It's very central to everything,
Don't go if you're a tourist. At best, stay here if you're doing the Camino de Santiago or plan to get up early, as you won't be able to rest after 7:30-8:00 a.m. The hotel is old and unpretentious. The walls let in all the noise: we woke up startled at 8:00 a.m. (after a very good dinner at Don Nacho, by the way) thinking water was falling in the room; it wasn't, it was the noise produced by the shower upstairs, completely deafening and, apart from waking us up, it kept us from resting before a day in Las Médulas. Overall, it could be cleaner, especially the bathroom. The hotel staff is very friendly. Good views of the entire Plaza de Villafranca. The Wi-Fi works well. Good temperature, radiator, and blankets in the room. New and comfortable mattresses. The rest of the room and hotel could use a renovation (many broken tiles in the bathroom).
A larger-than-average double room. Very clean facilities, and first-class staff service. The manager took the time to highlight all the city's attractions on the map he gave me. The rooms overlook the city center square, and right next to the hotel is the Church of San Francisco, which is part of the circuit of the 7 churches worth visiting in this beautiful city. I will definitely stay there again on my next visit to El Bierzo.
Simple hotel, in good condition, no elevator. Clean, small rooms with only one electrical outlet and no air conditioning. Clean bathrooms, but no soap or shampoo. WiFi and a café. Prices are unreasonable: double room €50, breakfast €5.
