5 / 5 I recently stayed at this hostel and overall had a really good experience! The hostel isn’t very close to the bus station, and I wasn’t informed about the climb and stairs to reach it since it’s located on a hill. That was my only minor issue. Using Google Maps, I realized the detail and ended up going as close as possible (Santutxo metro station) and taking an Uber to the hostel — it worked perfectly.
The hostel is very clean, the room is comfortable, and the lockers even have power outlets inside. The bathroom is good, with plenty of hot water. The staff are friendly and helpful, making my stay even better. One thing to note: the reception closes after 11 PM and only reopens at 8 AM, so it’s always a good idea to contact them in advance to avoid being locked out.
The breakfast is simple. It would be great if they could add some savory options like ham or cheese, in addition to the fruit.
Without luggage, it’s very easy to get around the city — there are bus stops and a metro station nearby. The area feels safe, and as a woman traveling alone, I had no problems walking around.
I would definitely recommend this hostel!
1 / 5 Cockroaches everywhere, I even found one in the fridge. Also mind to bring your own towel or you have to rent for 3 euros each. Wouldn't stay there again. As for the reception some know English, some don't, the lady was nice and helpful.
As for the location it is , near to the center because bilbao is kinda small and walkable as a city, be prepared for many stairs though.
Last but not least, the breakfast is very poor, nothing savory ,only bread and sugarry things, basically you've got to buy your own food from a nearby supermarket if you wanna eat like a normal person.
1 / 5 One of the worst hostals I have ever stayed in my life.
The place is filled with "weird" people and old people walking on boxer briefs around. Very filthy and full of roaches, and I don't really blame them from the get go you feel like the place is not well mantained and never deep cleaned. I felt for my health every time i wanted to shower, that gross.
Everything is self managed, I had to do my bed as soon as I arrived which felt odd but I guess i gave it a pass because whatever but then at the end you have to pick you bed clothes as well which I really don't mind cuz im not lazy but the whole ordeal plus the fact that the place is really filthy makes me feel like they dont invest in a cleaning personal or at least they dont want to put actual money into the care of the customers.
It all felt like if I was in a real "shelter". But i was paying for that experience.
2 / 5 The room was very dirty: sticky doors, filthy handles, sticky beds, and a bad nacho-like smell in the air. The AC was only turned on after we specifically asked for it, when the heat became unbearable. Even then, it was set to the lowest level for a few hours, then turned off overnight. We woke up drenched in sweat, as the room became unbearably hot again. A very unpleasant experience.
1 / 5 Will never stay at this hostel again – and I’m baffled on how they got 4 stars tbh. Perhaps they bought reviews.
The dorm room I stayed in (03) had no air-conditioning, the bunk beds were very unpractical and uncomfortable, you have to pay extra for everything - locker, towel, bottom bed (even tho I heard the same curly hair guy at the reception asking a Spanish guest which bed they preferred, when he made me want to pay for it… I guess you get treated differently if you’re a gringo… embarrassing)
Bathroom and showers are poorly maintained. Saw two cockroaches on my way out of the shower.
Service is quite horrible.
All in all, I think this place should close down. What a waste.
