5 / 5 This was one of the places in which I have stayed. The room had everything for a stay of a few days, including microwave and a mini fridge. The bathroom was spacious, the closet too, the bed was comfy. And all this in the best location, next to the theater, Bilbao's ria and a few blocks from 2 metro stations (Abando and Casco Viejo).
2 / 5 The rooms are on the first floor which did not indicate in the check-in instruction, we had to wonder the building around until we found it.
We couldn’t reach WiFi at the room we had (number 7), only accessible at the entrance of the room. We informed the stuff and they couldn’t do anything about it. Instead, they asked as to use it in the common area. It was inconvenient for us.
The room itself is just alright, big enough for 2 people. The location is great.
5 / 5 Beautiful, elegant old building well-renovated and situated in the old town, surrounded by bars, restaurants and shopping. Walking distance to the Guggenheim along a wonderful river walk. Room was spacious and comfortable. Access was easy.
3 / 5 Room was nice, but the check-in can be a nightmare. I arrived at 2pm, when check-in was supposed to be open. There was no front desk or anything, you enter with a code. There are other businesses and apartments in the building, and no explanation in my reservation how to enter. I was very lucky, 2 guests that were staying there told me that it took them hours the day before to figure out how to get inside. It turns out, that down the street, just about 50 meters or so, they have an office, where you can check in, and they give you a code to the door, but I would have never figured this out if it wasn’t for the 2 other guests going through it and helping me. If this happens to you and you see this, and you are stuck at the door with no idea how to get in, walk down street that this address is on, as if you walked out of the door that you can’t get in, take a left out the door, walk about 50 meters, and look closely on the right side of the street for a sign that says “Casual Arriaga”, sorry I don’t remember the exact address, but only a 1 or 2 minute walk, you can find it, walk up to the second floor and you will find the office, and check in there to get your code.
As for the room, it was nice, but it was stuffy since the only windows open to a crawl space, there is a ceiling fan, but it is powered with the light, so when I turned the light off to go to sleep, the fan had to turn off too. It was so stuffy, that I tried sleeping with the light on, but I eventually chose to turn the light off and be too hot.
It was a pretty nice room, in a nice quiet building in a great location, but that part was annoying.
In the morning, the cleaning staff was incredibly loud and woke me up on a morning I was hoping to sleep in and catch up on sleep. The cleaning staff rolling stuff down the hallway and talking was so incredibly loud with lots of banging. This place has potential to be a great stay, but these annoyances make it hard to recommend, even though the cleanliness, room itself, and location were pretty nice.
