Hotel Rural Gaintza is a beautiful guesthouse inside a small winery, surrounded by vineyards yet only a short walk to town. After several nights of not sleeping well elsewhere, I finally rested deeply here—the rooms are spotless, quiet, and so comfortable, with air conditioning, heated floors, and even a welcome bottle of wine. What stood out most was the hospitality: the staff made me feel truly cared for in a way that went far beyond expectations. Breakfast was also exceptional, one of the best I’ve had in Spain. I wish I could give this place 10 stars!
Here is my experience. I intended to reserve a room for September 14, but mistakenly booked it for May 14. This was on May 13. The hotel charged my credit card the next day for being a no-show. $150. I explained that it was my mistake and could they please reverse the charge. They said “No”. That is their right. But it is not very generous. When we are in the area in September we will not be visiting their property or purchasing their wines. They just sent me an email to ask how we enjoyed our stay. How ironic.
Simple and nice hotel 5 minutes walk from Old Getaria. They greet you with a free bottle of their own wine. Walk from the old city is quite steep uphill, but you can use escalators from Juan Sebastian Elkano monument and then the elevator to get to the top. Nice vineyard view from the room. Breakfast was simple, but fine. One disappointing thing was the slight smell of the sewage from the bathroom in the morning. Didn’t ruin the holiday though, as we were already checking out.
Wonderful hotel just 5 min away from town. The surroundings are stunning since its a vineyard area. The staff were very gracious and made every moment pleasant. We did the vineyard tour and it was great. We had a big room with shower and a big bathtubs perfect for relaxing. Breakfast is huge. Can’t wait to be back again and enjoy one of my fav cities in the world.
We stayed here for our holiday in San Sebastián which is about 30 mins drive. Hotel Rural Gaintza is situated in family run vineyard and provides excellent accommodation. The staff are friendly with warm always willing to end a hand. We had the junior suite which is spacious and has a hot tub and separate shower. The room is very clean. There is also a bright and well organized living room as common area. Breakfast spread is generous and delicious. The owner also provide tour around the vineyard and wine tasting enthusiasm and passion. We had a great time at this hotel....
