5 / 5 We had a wonderful stay. If you are in San Sebastian for a city trip, Hostal Bahia is the place to be. I feel weird calling it a "Hostal" because the service and the accommodation are worthy of the name hotel. They definitely deserve 3 stars at least because of the incredible service. Day and night there is someone to help you with everything and price-quality wise, especially in the high season, this is the perfect place to book with a small company! Thank you Hostal Bahia and crew for the wonderful stay! See you next time!
5 / 5 Rooms were very nice and location was great! The main reason for the review is the kindness of the staff. My partner and I had our phones and wallets stolen, so were stressed and without money for the last day of our stay. The staff offered their assistance and even gave us food while we didn't have any money. We couldn't thank them enough for their support!
Apart from this, the rooms are very tidy and the location is almost on the beach close to the old town.
4 / 5 On the plus side, they had availability, the rooms were relatively affordable for the area, and the location is actually quite good. Some other reviewers seemed unhappy with breakfast, but it seemed pretty normal for a “continental” breakfast — solid bread and croissants with jam and butter, tea, coffee, and juice (but no yogurt etc.)
On the other hand, the rooms are quite spartan and small — but reasonable for a two-star hotel. However, the toiletries included are very low quality; the toilet paper is especially bad.
The staff do their job but did not seem particularly patient or to go out of their way to help, and if your Spanish is limited like mine, you may have some challenges.
No formal way to leave your bags before or after checkout, and if you are driving, there is parking a short walk away (but it can feel like a hike if you have luggage). (Also, there was a surprising amount of street noise, especially for a weeknight.)
1 / 5 Couldn’t sleep because the entire room fills up with sewer gas from poor plumbing. The room literally smelled like human waste. It was unbearable. I would have slept better outside in the balcony if I could have fit a mattress on that.
1 / 5 For the price go elsewhere! The only positive points I can think of are: the location, the space is fairly clean and the staff were pleasant.
Everything else about our experience was awful:
- The hotel is situated on a very busy place, which wouldn't be a problem if there was better noise isolation. We really struggled to sleep because not only there were a lot of noise outside but also we could hear everything our next door neighbours were doing, including all the water pipes when they decided to have a bath late at night - this was very very loud!
- the bed was small and mattress very uncomfortable as well as the pillows
- the breakfast was OK but you get the bare minimum, and the bread that you are served not only isn't fresh but it's so hard it could break your teeth. The croissant and coffee were OK, but that's about it.
I wouldn't be surprised by this or complaining if we had paid half of what we paid, but for the price/night you are charged this is unacceptable.
I will never stay here again and would advise anyone else against it, unless the prices change dramatically.
