This was a hugely disappointing experience. We arrived only to be chastised for not rechecking in online by a rude and surly staff member who was too busy watching TV to attend to us. The rooms are tiny for four people with minimal storage so everyone gets in everyone way, one central light for the room, the bedding provided whilst comfortable are thin and meagre so the night was cold. The noise from the street kept some of our party awake. The WiFi didn’t work in the bedroom only reception. The bathroom had mould and the toilet constantly ran. No towels provided you have to pay extra for that. The same survey staff member was in again at checkout watching TV and couldn’t even be bothered to look at us when we left. All of this for 120Euros! Definitely will not come back nor recommend

It's my first bad review about an hostel 😶 The reception didn't mention the fact that the door wasn't closing efficiently : you have literally to smash it. So when we were gone someone came and used our bathroom to s*** and or vomit. And we told the guy at the reception, he seemed sorry and gave us something to clean ourselves. Second problem in the morning of the checkout, we tried to go get a shower : no more hot water at 10:00 : we are in Winter . We are so disappointed about our first day of the year 2026! Thank you, San Fermin 🥳

The Follow the Yellow Shell team stayed at Hostel Sam Fermin in September 2025. Basic hostel in the Old town of San Sebastián right in the middle of all the bars and restaurants etc. perfect Location. The Hostel is basic but usable especially for pilgrims walking the Camino Del Norte and does the job for 1 night.

Bit of a cramped hostel with no air-conditioning. The location is amazing, but the bars outside are noisy, so this is not for people who want a good nights sleep. Great for if you're young and looking for a place to crash that's clean but not too fancy.

Garbage for the following reasons: Extremely overpriced at €41 (during the weekday) for a bed in an 8-person dorm room; Only one washroom (and the toilet and shower are in the same room) for 8 people; The wifi does not work in the rooms—even though they advertise “free wifi”—so you have to loiter in their depressing main floor lobby if you need to connect to the internet; The beds suck; The man at the front desk is rude, dismissive, and unapologetic—he speaks very quickly AT you, in Spanish, even if he knows you don’t speak the language.
