I know that the prices in San Sebastián are ridiculous and compared to other hotels, this is well priced. The location is great and the shared bathrooms were quite clean. But: the room was very small, with only minimal wardrobe space, the bed was horrible and gave me a backache since the mattress was extremely worn out (it has been a long time since I have had to sleep in such an uncomfortable bed), the lighting was very uncomfortable (big neon light or tiny dark lights) and there was no reception or anyone to check in with except via phone call. We booked through booking.com and didn’t receive the passcodes to access the front doors and room, but fortunately we got some help by calling a phone number. I really feel like they should make sure that the guests - who pay a lot of money for this hotel - get their passcodes ! Also the room only had a small window leading to the patio , so airing out the room was practically impossible. If you want to get a good night’s sleep and have a comfortable stay on your - what should be a relaxing - holiday, don’t book this hotel. Also I don’t understand the ratings that praise the decor/comfort and warm welcoming hosts - since this is a self check-in hotel. Seems like fake ratings to me to be honest.

None of the bathrooms had hot water the night I arrived (it was absolutely freezing and I couldn’t shower as I was already catching a cold), nor the next morning before 9:30am. I didn’t report it to the “security guard” since that didn’t seem appropriate, but found out later that was who I should contact. The other numbers did not connect me to anyone who was working after-hours, and one of the contacts provided for WhatsApp didn’t even have a WhatsApp phone number. I requested compensation for the lack of hot water and have still not heard back, but they made excuses and it sounded likely that no compensation would be made. The room itself was nice and the facilities clean, walls are not well sound-proofed, but there are rules for relative quietness. The location couldn’t be beaten as far as being in the old town, although I will mention that for anyone with a rental car even the closest parking lot which is 20€/day or more is a 5 minute walk. Not the worst if you don’t have much stuff, but I think parking any closer sounds impossible.

Staying at Off Beat Guesthouse was a truly refreshing experience. The concept is original and well executed — everything is designed with comfort and mindfulness in mind. The room was cozy, spotless, and thoughtfully decorated, creating a calm and peaceful vibe. The staff were warm, welcoming, and clearly passionate about what they do. You can really feel the attention to detail in every corner of the guesthouse. A perfect choice for travelers looking for a more conscious and relaxing stay in San Sebastián. Would love to come back!

Absolute bargain considering prices around. For my taste the furnishings and design is amazing. Very clean and in centre of old town, when you enter your room you can’t hear the crowds partying at all. Highly recommend it!

The location is great but the room was humid, with no natural light at all (I knew I did not have a view but did not expect to stay in the dark also during the day). The bedsheets did not seem clean (found some hair). Towels had stains on them. The shared bathrooms were ok, even if with all those rooms, I would expect more bathrooms. It is not possible to sleep without ear plugs, since walls are thin and you can hear everything from the corridor. The codes worked fine but I find it really sad not to have anybody to ask anything and for the price, there is no even the option to leave the luggage. For sure a rip-off for the price and the quality of the room. It is a bit sad that in San Sebastián this is one of the few "cheaper" options if you don't want to stay in a dorm. The concept of recycling of the guest house sounded a bit forced as well. It would be more valuable to offer clean spaces and more services instead of recycled furniture.
