We didn't get to stay here as we couldn't make it anymore. We wanted to cancel a day before the reservation and hoped for a partial refund but the staff handling the Booking reservations was very rude. Immediately after the first message to cancel they withdrew the money from our card. They only responded with "it is not possible 100% penalty reserved 2 months ago". We messaged them again nicely explaining the situation but got no response. While we understand there are policies for last minute cancellations, a nice decent answer or the possibility to change dates would've been nice. After this experience and the reviews seen here, we will definitely not reserve here in the future and advice people against it too.
The bathroom smelled terrible (like mildew and sewage). After complaining about the stench, we were told it was because of the river, although the rest of the city didn’t smell like that. Truly a stench that will unfortunately linger in my memory forever. The room itself was adequate. Extremely hot in the summer with no AC, but there is a fan. Fantastic location.
All of this set in the context of a 2* hotel so you have to accept the resulting compromise. We found it one of the better-value options on price, amongst San Sebastian's pretty steep accommodation costs. The pluses are 10 mins walk to either of the key rail stations in and out, and to the main tourist zone, the characterful old town with its huge array of pintxos bars, the lovely harbour and onward to the stroll on the high ground to the castle and the statue. The hotel's welcome is also friendly. The double room was a decent size, the bed comfortable. Leaving the minuses to last..the decor is tired including bathroom, with maintenance needed, the storage cheap-looking, towels thin, tv tiny. You get what you're paying for in a sense, fine if you can do without luxury, ok for a couple of nights...and are ok with the chimes of the cathedral metres away that kick in about 7am.
I cancelled my booking 2 months ago (well within the free cancellation period) and I am still waiting for a refund. I have contacted the hotel and they have stopped replying. Clearly they have no intention of refunding me so I have had to go through my credit company to obtain a refund
Prime Location, super clean place. Some highlights which I liked the most - shower which filters water, very comfortable bed with super nice blankets, a small balcony to see the streets and enjoy the feel.
