5 / 5 If you are looking for a great hostel with a good atmosphere, look no further.
The staff was accommodating, friendly, and energetic. Throughout my stay they asked how I was doing, answered any questions I had, gave recommendations for things to see and do, and helped book surf lessons/rentals.
As for the hostel, it was overall very clean, organized, and well laid out. The beds had lockers underneath big enough to fit big bags, each bed had a curtain, light, and charging outlet. The main bathroom was a little cramped but the private bathroom was a gem! Great idea to have a private bathroom that is available to everyone.
Saving the best for last, the location is superb! The surf club is 3-5 minutes way, the beach is 5-6 minutes away, there's an Lidl around 3-5 minutes away, the bus station is 15 minutes away, and the main part of San Sebastián is around 15 minutes away. It's the perfect distance from everything!
The kitchen does not have a stove, oven, or any cookware. It does however have a fridge, microwave, toaster, utensils, and teapot. Keep this in mind if you plan of cooking for yourself during your stay. It is a little more on the pricy side. That said I do think it is well worth it.
5 / 5 A huge shout-out to Patricia, Elle, Sofía, and Frans. Each of them brings something special, and together they make the place unforgettable:
Together, they create a space where it’s easy to meet people, relax, and enjoy the beauty of San Sebastián — all while feeling completely welcomed and appreciated.
If you’re looking for a place with amazing people, great energy, and a real family atmosphere, Surf Etxea is the perfect choice. I’d return in a heartbeat.
1 / 5 The worst hostel experience i ever had. Host is rude, awful and has no idea about customer service. I waited 3 hours outside and it was 3 in the afternoon, because guess what, he was out surfing! I had emailed him in advance of my arrival time. And when I confronted him, he was trying to blame it on me, the guest. In my 15 years of travelling he is still the worst host i have ever encountered. not worth it. stay away!
4 / 5 Pros:
- good location
- clean
- comfortable
Cons:
- on the bottom bunk people can see you through the ladder, and in a mixed dorm with strangers this made me feel a bit uncomfortable.
- no hob in kitchen (only toaster and microwave)
5 / 5 Best hostel I've ever stayed in! Facility wise it's very nice and clean, but especially the staff is amazing. They really put in the effort in making you feel at home and you can always join them for them surfing or going for a drink.
If you're looking for a hostel where you can socialize with the other guests and staff look no further, since this the best place to stay in San Sebastián!
