1 / 5 Stay: 16-18 September 2025
I'm compelled to share my deeply disappointing experience at this establishment. Having travelled extensively, I rarely encounter such a complete absence of basic hospitality standards.
During our two-night stay, we paid €672 for three guests, expecting at minimum a professional and courteous environment. Instead, we were met with indifference bordering on hostility from the reception staff.
The most shocking incident occurred during breakfast when we had arranged in advance to celebrate a birthday. I had coordinated this with the staff beforehand via messages, making a simple request for a candle on a muffin. What should have been a pleasant moment turned into a deliberately uncomfortable situation. A young staff member approached our table and, in what felt like a demonstration of her clear animosity toward us, lit the candle right in front of our table rather than preparing it beforehand. She then placed it on the table in complete silence without uttering a single word—no "congratulations," no "happy birthday," nothing—and immediately walked away. Her entire demeanour suggested she was doing us some kind of favour we didn't deserve. The hostility was palpable and intentional. If hotel staff find guests so unpleasant that they cannot perform basic courtesies without displaying open contempt, perhaps they should consider a different line of work. This was not merely poor service; it was deliberate rudeness that turned what should have been a celebratory moment into an awkward and unpleasant experience for everyone at our table.
Simple requests throughout our stay were treated as burdens rather than normal guest services. When we asked for basic amenities such as an iron, we were informed the hotel doesn't stock them—surprising for an establishment at this price point. The staff's demeanour was consistently unwelcoming, with communication delivered in a manner more appropriate for settling disputes than assisting paying guests. They speak to guests as if addressing family members during a domestic argument—lacking any semblance of professional courtesy.
What struck me most was the complete lack of service recovery. When issues arose, there was no acknowledgment, no apology, and no attempt to improve the situation. The staff seemed either untrained in hospitality fundamentals or simply uninterested in guest satisfaction.
For the price paid, one expects not luxury necessarily, but basic professionalism and courtesy. This establishment failed to deliver even that minimum standard. The physical facilities may be adequate, but hospitality is fundamentally about people and their attitude toward guests. This hotel demonstrated a profound misunderstanding of what guest service means—displaying brutality where there should be warmth, and indifference where there should be care.
I cannot recommend this hotel and would strongly advise travellers to consider alternatives where their custom is valued and where staff understand that their role is to enhance, not ruin, guests' experiences. This establishment clearly does not understand what hospitality means.
3 / 5 Great location. Close to everything but not smack dab in the middle. Shower was also very nice. Only issue was the air conditioning didn't really work. We basically slept on top of the sheets for our stay.
5 / 5 The hotel is in a great location with a short walk down the hill to cafes & bar (escalators for the way up) & the centre of Santander. Our room (Primrose) was superb, spacious & light with a modern design, perfect for 2nights. Onsite there was a trendy bar area & a spacious outdoor balcony area, unfortunately we did not use the bar as it wasn’t staffed due to low demand. The ladies on reception were welcoming & pleasant. We thoroughly enjoyed our stayed & loved the quirky touches to the design of this boutique hotel. Highly recommend booking this boutique hotel if you’re staying in Santander.
4 / 5 Hotel in a great location and impressive building. The decoration and styling is exquisite, with impressive finishing touches. The reception staff were very welcoming each time we entered and left the hotel. The room was great. The only thing missing was tissues. The bar was disappointing with no-one available to service, no draught beer and looking at the menu wine was ten euros which is extortionate given the amount you pay for a glass in the rest of Santander.
5 / 5 Request the room
White Horse, this is where we stayed, and it has a beautiful enclosed balcony. The beds were comfortable, and the breakfast was good enough with typical meat, cheese, and egg options. The place is meticulously maintained, and reception is very helpful they gave us a wine opener, a bucket of ice, and glasses so we could drink our wine in our enclosed balcony.
