Lovely place, but there are too many beds for the space. Not enough chairs to sit for the number of pilgrims. Really no place to put your pack either. Very confined space. Too many showers and toilets in a small room and no place to change after shower except the 3ft by 3 ft shower stall. Only one sink for all pilgrims.
Albergue Santiago de Caminha is a great stop for pilgrims on the Camino. The hostel is clean, simple, and comfortable, with a welcoming and friendly atmosphere. The staff are helpful and provide great tips for the Camino. The location is convenient, close to restaurants, a grocery store, and other local amenities. A perfect place to rest and recharge before continuing your journey.
Sadly this was the worst stay on our Camino so far (comparing 10 hostels). The space has no windows, feels a bit claustrophobic. Showers felt a bit moldy, you had no control over the temperature of the water and the flow of water stopped every 5 seconds. We paid 25 euros per person which is a standard price for a hostel in this area and in season. This hostel did not however reach the standard set by the others.
No curtains on the beds even though there were the rails, no windows… it felt like being locked up in a warehouse. The check-in lady was nice but definitely the worst hostel I slept in during the Caminho Portugues da Costa.
Bed bug alert! Avoid until the owner disinfects the place properly! I saw a bed bug crawling on my pillow. I didn’t know what it was crawling on my pillow as I have never had bed bug bites my entire life. After spending a night there, the next day I started noticing I have multiple redness spots on my skin and the itchiness kept me up all night. Anyway long story short- My stuff got infested. My body reacts to the bites badly with blisters. My trip is ruined. Period
