Albergue GBC HOSTEL

The location is perfect for pilgrims walking the Camino de Portugués, and the room was clean and spacious. However, on the night I stayed, there was a power outage occurred at the room I stayed (not all the rooms experiences the power outage, only a few rooms), and all the staff had already left. I tried to contact them through the booking website, but no one ever replied, and there was no other way to reach them. This blackout caused a huge inconvenience because I couldn’t charge my phone or power bank—it felt like staying in a cave, just with beds and a toilet, everyone in the same room as me had to use their headlamp when using the toilet. No one came to fix the issue or offered any explanation, even by the time I checked out. Overall, it was a very disappointing experience.

This hostel has potential but we encountered some issues. We were woken up at 2am by someone loudly walking and rummaging through things in the room and down the hall and in the common areas. Also, we saw other people get keys to lockers/storage under their beds, but when we asked, they said our beds didn’t have keys/lockers without any clear explanation.

The place was dirty kitchen and the room floor and there’s no curtains in the bed. People does not respect the silence after 10 pm.So it’s definitely not ideal if you are in the Camino needing a peaceful rest night.

Exceptionally clean. However no one knew how to turn off/on the light and it was extremely bright until 12:30am which came back on at 7:50am, not ideal for pilgrims. No one at reception either.

My bed was one of the few without a privacy curtain and I was awakened 7 times during the night with people going to the bathroom. They need to put up signs in the dorms because people were very inconsiderate with noise and the light issue above; much more so than every other hostel I’ve been in during my time doing the Camino. The kitchen and sitting area is nice and the only saving grace from the poor dorms.
