I visited the Sanctuary of the Apparitions in Pontevedra, and it was a deeply moving experience. The sanctuary commemorates the apparitions of the Virgin Mary to Sister Lucia, one of the visionaries of Fátima. The chapel and surrounding areas are simple yet peaceful, offering a space for reflection and prayer. The atmosphere is serene, with a profound sense of spiritual significance. It’s a special place that invites visitors to connect with their faith and learn more about the events tied to the Fátima apparitions.

In a previous building that gave rise to this one, there are historians who maintain that the Jewish synagogue was located here in the Middle Ages; one of the reasons would be its proximity to the "Lampán or Campa dos Judeos", the medieval Jewish cemetery (see review: "Lampán dos Judeos"). More recently, in the 18th century, this building was the palace of the Arias Teixeiros and preserves on its facade a heraldic coat of arms from the 16th century with the lineages: Castro, Pereira, Ulloa, Ozores, Camba and Soutomaior, belonging to the house of Setados. For decades, the Dorothean Mothers have been installed in this building and eight years after the miracle of Fátima, which occurred in Portugal on October 13, 1917, the Virgin Mary, with the Child Jesus, appeared again to Sister Lucia, to Lucia de Jésús Rosa dos Santos (1907-2005), the last survivor of the miracle of Fátima, when she was a novice, at the age of eighteen, in this house in Pontevedra, under the protection of the Dorothean Mothers, in 1925. That is why it is considered the third Marian sanctuary after Lourdes and Fatima, granted by Pope John Paul II on the 75th anniversary of the appearance of the Virgin and Child to Sister Lucia in Pontevedra.

Place of recollection and prayer. Although many people are unaware of it, here in Pontevedra, the Virgin appeared to Sister Lucía asking her to spread the devotion of the first five Saturdays of the month throughout the world.
