This was a fantastic location looking straight out at the Gaudí Palace - our rooms were on the second floor. The room was large with a good sized bathroom. Downside: the shower in the bath with plastic shower curtain - needs an update! Food: we really enjoyed our meal in the bar area - sauuteed legumes with prawns and cod. Breakfast was adequate. Reception was welcoming.
We had dinner at the restaurant and were blown away. We enjoyed everything we ordered, but the roasted vegetables were especially tasty.
Where do I start? What’s good: its location is its biggest strength. Stay here and you are right in the center of Astorga’s historic center. And Astorga is a lovely place. What’s NOT good: 1) Gaudi will not be happy this hotel is named after him! The only art deco part here are the doors facing the plaza. The rooms certainly are not, the dining room, the bar? Nah! It’s just an old 70s vibe that needs updating. It’s a very tired hotel. What’s REALLY BAD: 1) The RUDE staff. I stayed here in 2019 and I had an experience with the guy at the bar when I was inquiring about my breakfast at 630am. He dismissed me until I insisted I had a paid breakfast. 2) This time (2025) the guy at the front desk was rude. I just smiled at him. And while my breakfast and dinner were paid I decided not to have it there as I didn’t want to have any more engagement with the staff. Just went out for dinner and left early for the next day’s trek without eating my breakfast. They have absolutely no sense of customer service. And if they’re in the hospitality industry they know that however bad their day is, they should, at all costs be polite. This is NOT a place to stay.
Perfect location! Old charming hotel perfectly situated across the Cathedral and Gaudi Palacio. The friendly guy in the reception asked us if we wanted a room with a view towards the Gaudi house. Great choice!!! Beds excellent and the Camino track just outside the hotel. Many good restaurants close by and in the hotel.
Located across the cathedral. Nice hotel, good and clean rooms. Not pleasant staff. Especially the girl at the bar. Very rude. But you can’t beat the location. I guess since they have a very good location they don’t see the need to also be pleasant with their quests.
