5 / 5 I walked the Camino de Santiago in September 2025. I stayed at the Monasterio san Zoilo hotel for one night which included breakfast . The hotel has a lovely old style /medieval feel to it beside the river. On arrival in reception , you are treated to gregorian style music in the background , adding to the historical feel of the hotel and the ambience of the location The hotel room with old wood door was nicely decorated with a heavenly feel .
The dining room had wooden beams in the ceiling adding to the character of the building .Whilst i was not overly hunger , i had a starter and shared a bottle of wine with my peregrino friend who ate 4 courses.. The buffet breakfast was very extensive with a great selection of meats , breads etc..
I WILL return to the this fantastic hotel again for a longer stay and will enjoy what it has to offer .
For your information , my Camino travel partners were @Magichillholidays located in Ireland and it was a good selection on their part to recommend this hotel.
4 / 5 It's a lovely hotel. The only issue for Pilgrims is that dinner doesn't start till 8 and breakfast doesn't start till 8. That's tough when you are trying to get to sleep early and ro get on the road early. A nice option if you are getting a later start or staying another day.
4 / 5 Lovely experience stay in a converted monastery. Staff lovely. Rooms very tired & could do with new grout in bathrooms & a little paint. Overall very quiet & nice
3 / 5 Great architecture, but:
I dont understand, why the service is so unwelcoming. Possible reasons: Bad management with bad working condition and payment? Permanent hearing gregorian chants?
Anyway, the architecture of rhe inner monastery is great (but it is only open at secret times), the rooms are "ok". But all the rest (breakfast, bathrooms with , information policy, sound insulation against bar and other guests noise, snarring acoustic device from service, climate machines, smoking smell, reception service) has the charme of a youth hostel. Breakfast was bad (or overpriced).
Sorry, maybe my expectations were the problem. Anyway everything would be better, if service is more friendly.
1 / 5 The front desk service was abrupt and unwelcoming.
The bartenders were beyond rude. We were trying our best to be friendly and respectful, and were treated with such a lack of common decency.
The place is beautiful and intriguing, so still happy we stayed, but there is no excuse for that kind of behavior.
