A great place to spend the night before the camino. Facilities are basic, bunk room and shared showers, toilets and small kitchen, but perfectly clean and acceptable. I found it very easy to get chatting with other pilgrims. Note however that the kitchen doesn’t have a hob/oven, but one can be used at the tourist office. The view of the surrounding valley from the bedrooms is particularly good and was a highlight of the stay.
Simple, cheap, breakfast included and a kitchen to make food! The only negative is that the door to the dormitory didn't close, which meant sounds from the bathrooms/kitchen were a bit loud, which I would remove a star for – but there was a cat, which I'll give a bonus star for, bringing us back up to 5 😸
€12 a night, they open at 2pm (no reservations) The kitchen had a fridge, microwave, kettle and was very clean and so were the bathrooms. The beds had individual power and lights and there was no noise when trying to sleep. Staff were friendly and helpful.
5 stars because it's a good place for what it is. Would recommend.
There were no more beds on the first or second floor, so I had to stay in the downstairs basement, such literally looked like a dungeon, with one other guy who wasn't too friendly. There is no one servicing the place to ask questions, instead you just stick your money in a box and find your bed. Quite a welcome for the first day of the Camino, but I was expecting some like that lol. Looking back, Saint Jean would probably be the only place I would not stay in the municipal alburgue. The town of Saint Jean is really quiet for being the official starting point of the Camino.
