We stayed at Hotel Restaurant des Remparts for three nights in April, before walking the Camino Francés. It is a charming 400+ year-old building that has been nicely maintained and carries a real sense of character. Yes, it’s a 2-star hotel, but don’t let that fool you—the rooms were clean, the beds were very comfortable, the Wi-Fi worked perfectly, and the breakfast was exactly what you need to fuel up before walking: fresh crusty bread, croissants, cheese, cold cuts, jam, the famous Basque cake, and tea/coffee. And the showers? Hot and amazing (yes!!!). Honestly, what more could one want? A special shout out to the owner, Ignacio, who went above and beyond. I couldn’t find any milk for my evening tea because the Carrefour had closed and no other store carried it. Ignacio went out of his way and brought me a pot of milk from his kitchen—such a kind and generous gesture. It meant the world to me. We didn’t eat lunch or dinner at the restaurant, but other guests raved about the food. A perfect place to begin the Camino with warmth, comfort, and hospitality.

This is an older hotel run by Ignacio and his (at the time) fiance Cristina. I believe they married in October but not sure. Ignacio is a great host, kind and friendly, very hard-working man. Yes, the bedrooms could be spruced up but the bathrooms, at least mine, looked brand new. I stayed in room # 1, I believe. The breakfast was simple and it offered basically what we needed. One thing that I would recommend is a motion light sensor when you wish to go downstairs as it was a little too dark and I was afraid of falling. If the lights would turn on, it would be safer to go downstairs. The location is excellent since it allowed us to get to the heart of town in no time.

Remperts cafe was a big disappointment. The outside of hotel was super cute with red painted shudders and flowers and location was great. They do not allow you to check in until 4pm which was not consistent with other hotels in area. Inside the room was very outdated with a tiny room for 2 people. Covers on comforter looked liked they were worn. There was no lighting in the stairway and they were difficult to climb with luggage. No hot water in the outdated shower and bathroom. Breakfast was on ok.

Great place to finish your Chemin du Puy or start your Camino Frances. Great food, and right on the ramparts...

Fantastic hotel in brilliant location. Reasonably priced comfortable rooms. Free parking opposite. Very friendly owners and staff. Very ģood for the Camino. The best thing about the hotel is the food - they have tiny menu written on a shred of paper - it is the sort of outstanding home cooked food that used to be common in france but is now almost impossible to find- the rabbit in prunes was spectacular. A big contrast to the the tourist trap restaurants in st jean with their surly staff. I cannot wait to return to this hotel.
