5 / 5 Laurie and Roberto, such fabulous, knowledgeable hosts, (friends). Couldn't ask for a better place to stay, exceptionally clean well maintained facilities with added lockable storage area for my motorcycle and even somewhere to put my gear, unbelievable. Both Laurie and Roberto have extensive knowledge of the local area and oh, so friendly. The atmosphere was calm and enjoyable. The personal welcoming and communication during our one night stay was second to none. Our breakfast was super nutritious, fresh and healthy, we both had a tear in our eyes to leave so soon after meeting such fabulous hosts. See you again! Laurie thanks for the added little present for Sarah's convenience will be much appreciated 😉 x x
5 / 5 This bed & breakfast was a lovely respite on put GR10 hike. We were given a very warm welcome by the amazing hosts, with great service. The breakfast was wonderful too. The room was super comfortable, great bed, really nice bathroom, and everything was clean. I would highly, highly recommend staying here, it was very memorable and probably the best spot on the entire trip. Wish we could've stayed for two nights but unfortunately out planning didn't allow for it.
5 / 5 My sister and I had such a wonderful stay here. Laurie and Roberto are just lovely, really kind and are there to help with anything. It's the perfect location to start your Camino from. The breakfast was really good too. We enjoyed this so much! Thank you
5 / 5 A True Gem in Saint-Jean-Pied-de-Port – Beyond Hospitality
Our stay at Maison Bernatenia was nothing short of extraordinary. From the moment we arrived, Laurie and Robert welcomed us not just as guests, but as part of their family. Their warmth, kindness, and genuine care created an atmosphere that instantly felt like home. Meeting their son Mateo only reinforced the sense of goodness that radiates from this family.
We faced unexpected challenges with our rented bikes the night before starting our Camino journey. Robert, without a moment’s hesitation, stepped in to help. He went above and beyond—patiently ensuring everything was in working order so that our dream of biking the Camino could begin. Truly, without his help, our journey would not have been possible. That act of generosity is something we will never forget.
As for the house itself, it is as perfect as the hosts. The rooms are immaculate, the bed incredibly comfortable, and every detail of the home carries a warm, inviting energy. It’s not just a place to stay—it’s a place to rest, connect, and feel deeply cared for.
Maison Bernatenia is far more than a bed and breakfast; it’s a haven of kindness and comfort. For anyone beginning their Camino—or simply visiting this beautiful region—this is the place to stay. Our gratitude runs deep, and we carry with us the memory of Laurie, Robert, Mateo, and their home as part of our Camino story forever.
5 / 5 This is a magical spot to start off El Camino de Santiago! It is the cleanliness and comfort of a hotel with the charm and heart of a albergue. The hosts were so kind and accommodating and offered great recommendations and insights about El Camino. They were always willing to help and went the extra mile offering us tea at night. Look no further than this spot to start off your Camino!
