What an awesome stay! Lovely private room with stunning balcony view and garden. The host "Pancho" was super helpful and saved us a lot of hassle. . .Trust the man and do what he tells you! Had a good laugh, a nice host makes it so much more worthwhile. . would 100% stay again!

SO lovely. The owner was very nice. Rooms were comfortable and the added privacy curtains and chargers were a plus. Very clean and great breakfast. Would definitely stay here again!

I took a reservation for gite makila on my first stop at the camino in saint jean. It was an absolutely beautiful experience. The hostel got a nice garden With a stunning view on the Mountains. Several Chairs available outside. The hospitalero Leon was extremly friendly. He answered every question and helped with Organisation stuff. I had a pretty Good sleep aswell. In my room there were courtains for every bed, to Keep some Privacy. The Rest of the hostel was clean and simply amazing. The breakfast was also amazing: croissants, several sorts of cereal, Coffee, tea and so on (i have seen breakfast in other albergue on the camino which only consist of a Piece of toast and a cold coffee). Absolute recommondation

Pancho ❤️❤️❤️❤️❤️. Doesn’t get any better than an owner who passionately cares about his brand. I spent two night in town. Day1 was lovely and 75°F and my room had 3 others with complete quiet and respectful of each other. Day2 was rain and 3 others in room unfortunately with one gent across from me who ate sardines in his bed, passed gas all night, and snored/hacked/talked all night. Then at 5am he awoke to fully pack his bag he left unpacked all night. Regardless I would stay at Makila 100 out of 100 times when I come back. Pancho was helpful, a pleasure to speak with, and truly made you feel you were home. I cannot recommend Makila more highly. Bravo to you kind sir for the wonderful place you run. Your pride in what you do shows for us all. Buen Camino.

A group of 5 hikers on the Le Puy route, we stopped over at la Makila for a night. Excellent welcome, modern and efficiently organized hostel, very clean and comfortable room and bathroom, outstanding breakfast. Not to be missed when you are in St Jean!
