5 / 5 A lovely, quiet country-side inn, with very pleasant service and good meals.
5 / 5 Stunning views, very nice rooms, very friendly hosts, a totally Basque experience. The old photos in the living room (they reminded me of my grandfather in a mountainous area of Greece), all the animals (horses, dogs, and yes, cats at last, we are cat lovers) but no donkeys (maybe its more Mediterranean)...
What to say more... It worth all the road to come to it (GI-3210) which by the way, it is long and tiring but it is one of the most beautiful scenic roads you can get! When we planned this trip, firstly we wanted to go Bilbao to San Sebastien but, we included Txiki / Itziar for getting the real rural Basque experience... So mission accomplished with flying colors...
4 / 5 It's worth the effort if you are a pilgrim to spend a night here. There's also a wonderful shortcut through dense woodland to get down to Deba. The service from the hosts Maider & Lourdes is excellent either in advance on the phone or when you're there. They will also advise on sights to see and the coastal walking routes.
The accommodation is rustic. A typical Basque historic farm complex which used to rear cattle. The views from the landscaped gardens are incredible looking out towards the open sea and Deba below. An oasis of peace watching their cats & dogs on the lawn. The bedroom itself is comfortable perhaps a little humid in winter/spring. The shower is fine although showing signs of wear and tear. Overall, the installations have their charm.
The evening meal was pretty basic but ok with pasta & roast chicken. I wasn't asked if I wanted a glass of wine either during or after meal, which I would have liked. The rice pudding was freshly made and tasted good. Breakfast was great & they have gluten free Magdalenas too.
Overall if you like a change from modern accommodation to one with rustic charm & excellent service & attention, this Hotel is a good choice. It also works for the discerning pilgrim doing the Camino del Norte.
5 / 5 Really friendly people that run this hotel. We felt super welcome and enjoyed our multiple days there! Beautiful rooms in an old farmhouse. And most important, you really do not want to miss the home baked magdalenas for breakfast, what a treat!
5 / 5 What a location, tucked away into the hills above Deba with amazing views down the the coast. Despite little Spanish on our part, we were made to feel very welcome by the owners, staff and the dog. Opportunity to sit out, but the wind was too chilly. An evening meal can be had, and super tasty with wine. Breakfast was also great with homemade bread, muffins and apple juice. Best coffee with hot milk and we could have another nug of each. Room was lovely with a door onto a small private terrace with two chairs in the sun. Seemed to be popular with walkers on the Camino. Lounge to sit in after dinner and where I enjoyed my green tea. Would recommend. As a cyclist though, you have to cycle back along the road you arrive in on, and yes of course, it's a long way uphill! Slightly difficult to find in our experience and we had to ask the way a couple of times. Secure bike storage was no problem.
