4 / 5 We arrived with some apprehensions given the mixed reviews, but our experience was very positive.
The farmhouse is quite rusty and has definitely seen better days, however Rosa is a lovely host. My wife and I arrived ~4 pm. Rosa made us a lovely meal and asked when we wanted to head out in the am. The room is clean, the bed is clean, the shower had good pressure and plenty of hot water which was perfect for our recovery. The service is a 5 with a lower rating for the room and location. The location is right next to the Camino trail but ~2 km before you get to Deba.
We were booked here by Santiago Ways. If you’re on el Camino, this hotel is convenient to the trail but not good for the next day. The next day is a tough hike to Markina so ideally stay in Deba. The hike to Markina has lots of elevation and no services along the way. As such, you have to carry all your water and lots of food for the day. Again, I highly recommend you stay in Deba so you don’t begin the next day to Markina with a very steep 2km downhill.
5 / 5 Lovey house in a rural location, beautiful views out the window! Home cooked dinner (3 courses) which was welcome as not many other options close by! Also delicious breakfast of omelette and homemade preserves, everything from her own garden!
Rosa is very friendly and actively helpful!
5 / 5 This place was lovely! Doña Rosa took us in when I was so exhausted I couldn't take another step & I saw the sign on the road. She fed us a lovely dinner. Then found us a similar farmhouse for the next night, cause we couldn't find anything online at all. Every hostel & hotel was full near El Camino del Norte. The private room & bath were clean & comfortable & tons of hot water. Doña Rosa is an angel of mercy!!!
5 / 5 Lovely people! Our little doggie was welcome to make herself at home, and that's a 5 star in my book :) but it must be mentioned that the lady, that I can't for the life of me remember the name of, provided us with a map and directions down to the village with tips on where to eat at a very late hour! In the morning at crack of dawn she again appeared, brewing beautifully smelling coffee and laying out homemade jams next to bruchetas. Delicious!
1 / 5 I booked in advance, I'm walking the el camino and this was the last option. When I got there the lady didn't open the door, I called and she kept repeating "completa completa," despite I had the booking, she just gave my room to two girls who got there 15 minutes before me without booking.
