Albergue Azabache

I really wish I could give this place 5 stars but unfortunately during my stay I was attacked by what I can only assume were bed bugs. I woke up covered in insect bites that made itchy and uncomfortable raised red areas that only got better with hydrocortisone. Otherwise, the staff were incredible, and the facilities were regularly maintained throughout the day.

Unbeatable location, Stone throw from the cathedral. Comfortable and spacious rooms, the ones on the top floor have small terrace, handy common room, and gorgeous old wood throughout. And the staff are incredibly helpful. I’ve stayed twice, the second time during the nationwide power outage of 2025 when the staff took such good care of us. Highly recommended.

I booked to stay here for 2 nights , I was sleeping in my bed and around 11 am staff woke me up and told me to move out from the hotel as they want to clean the room and clean every area in hostal. I told them I paid to stay for 2 nights and I only just stay my first night but staff said no one allow to stay in the hostel in any room until 1 p.m , not even in the sitting room or in the kitchen or in the toilet because is a cleaning time for them, I was in shock to hear that but I have no choice ,so I have been forced to go out from the hostel with no time go to toilet or have a shower .. I felt so bad to go out like that i look tired and look awful half sleep to find some where near bye to sit outside on the street until 1 pm!! I could not go to sit in the cafe as I look awful just woke up ,this was not right the way of the hostel treated clients like this. Why should I leave the room by 11 am and go to sit one the street for 2 hours while waiting for them to clean the room 😞, I did not get much sleep because the hostel is located in a busy area next the shops and bars down stairs and opposite the music bar open til almost morning, it was so noisy and drunkers people yelling outside the hostel all night til morning! by the time I can get sleep almost 6/7 am ..but then staff wake me up at 11 am to leave the hostel to clean! This made me ill! The room we share have no privacy as all bed no curtains every one see each other. I don't recommend to stay in this hostel more than 1 night if you go out to party and back to your room late you would not allow to stay in after 11 am!

I've stayed here twice now. That I returned here when there is so much choice in Santiago de Compostela should say loads. And I'll stay here again. Location: less than a stones throw from the Cathedral

If any pilgrim wants to have a quick shower before heading elsewhere, this albergue allows showers for €6, towels included. The shower was modern and clean when I went - nice for a quick refresh. The receptionist also let us rest at the common area as well :)
