Unthinkable. The cave-like room we had shouldn't be inhabitable. The damp pervades everything, the smell is strong as soon as you step inside. The walls are made of loose stone; if you touch it, you'll hurt yourself, including the headboard. (See photo.) The bathroom is a separate corner of the room, with half-height windows. Whatever you do in it, you do it half a meter away from your partner, whether in bed or at the table. The fan above the toilet is no match for such humidity. Upon checking out, we had to pack everything we had, DAMP. No way to dry (let alone wash) not even a sock. The window is tiny, the only option is to keep the door open: but people are walking by, you're in public. The place is at the top of a narrow, STEEP, cobblestone road. Only for experienced drivers and SMALL cars. Positives: you're downtown, and if it's hot outside, you won't mind.
The apartment is well located, but they forgot to mention that it was on the street with pubs and bars, so it's very noisy and busy. The apartment is not insulated! The outside light shone into the apartment all night, making it impossible to sleep peacefully. We arrived at 5 p.m. The scheduled check-in time for 4 p.m. wasn't respected because the apartment wasn't ready... The apartment is patched up (damaged floor, broken toilet bowl), the bathroom is unfinished, and work is in progress. There's a mini fridge in the kitchen; you can hardly put anything in it. No water is provided even though it's over 40 degrees. No soap to wash your hands in the bathroom. The staff doesn't even speak Portuguese... only English; it's a big rip-off for the price of the night!
The experience was good. Just as we expected and as it looked in the photos. A simple, clean, and well-located space. That's what we found. I'm taking off one star for two reasons: The extra bed was broken. We could hear a lot of footsteps from the apartment above. The owners were very responsive on WhatsApp and answered my questions about places to visit in the area.
