Charme 19

The location is insane. You can basicially walk to anything in the city in 10-15 minutes. The service was very good. The rooms were really clean and the breakfast was awesome. If I had to criticize something it would be that the tv was a little small but the stay overall was very pleasing.

Charme 19 is by far the best place we stayed at in Portugal (and personally I haven’t seen such a good service in a very long time!). The rooms are spacious and well equipped. The street is also very calm. The staff is attentive, kind and did everything in their power to accommodate us, thank you very much for that! The breakfast is also amazing, the products are fresh and well selected. We absolutely loved our stay and totally recommend if you’re staying in Coimbra. The b&b is in a traditional building of the historical centre. There is no lift, but you cannot reasonably expect one in the middle of an old town so I find the negative reviews absolutely unfair (there are “modern” hotels in the newer part of town).

Nice place in the heart of Coimbra. I don’t understand the bad ratings. They mainly talk about the fact that it isn’t an actual hotel and more individual apartments. So as long as you don’t require any help getting your luggage up the stairs, you’ll have a wonderful stay. Rooms are great! Breakfast was very good. The fact, that it is in the middle of the city comes with not being able to access with the car. But again, no surprise as it is known and there are good parking garages 5 mins walk away.

Biggest SCAM in Coimbra !!!! 1. Can’t unload luggage because no car access 2. No one to help to bring luggage to room (our room is #6, on top floor) if you arrive in the evening 3. No air conditioning. When we came inside the room, it was hot like oven (this is June 2023) 4. Water system is too old, if there is another person having shower in the same building, your room will have no water for bath and tap water during that time 5. No cabinet to put your clothes We paid via booking dot com for 3 nights, we only stayed 1 night because it’s so bad. They will not refund the other 2 nights. This place is listed as 3 stars but it’s standard is just 1 star. Think twice then check everything before you book this place. We believe they paid booking dot com commission so their property appears on top of the search.

I think all of the 5* reviews are either fake or by people who don't travel much. Great location if you are looking for a 'hostel' alternative. Otherwise TERRIBLE in every other way. I second everything noted in one of the other 1* reviews - inconvenient, non-existent service for a hotel, rude customer line, loud (drunkards were shouting in the middle of the night and it felt they were in the room), stuffy (no air con). Photos look much better vs. real life (power of marketing). We had booked through Citi and couldn't get refund. Still we cut our visit to only one night and switched to Quintas das Lagrimas (btw it was only $100 more and FAAAAAR cry from this spot).
