The cale guest house exceeded our expectations. The room was big and spacious. Fresh cookies and water left in room everyday. The room was cleaned every morning. The view from our room was so beautiful. The Host was very helpful and kind. The breakfast was full of fresh fruit, pastrys, boiled eggs, granola etc. The location was excellent 5minute walk from the river front. I would definitely stay here again.

PROS: The location is excellent, right in a historical building close to Ribeira, offering easy access to Porto's main attractions. Breakfast is included, and the staff is extremely friendly and attentive. Despite staying for only two nights, they cleaned our room after the first night while we were having breakfast, which was a thoughtful touch. CONS: There is no elevator, which is common in historical buildings throughout Portugal, so it may not be suitable for those with mobility issues. While breakfast was good, there could have been more variety, but considering the limited number of rooms, this is understandable.

My wife and I spent three nights in this property and we highly recommend it. The staff is very friendly and helped us store our tendam bike. The breakfast is delicious, with lots of options. The location is perfect, just a few minutes from restaurants and the water. Rooms are big and clean.

I would recommend Cale Guest House to anyone visiting Porto. The hotel is basic but very clean. We were more than happy with our room, which included a small garden space to sit out in. Breakfast was included in our stay and offered teas, coffee, cereal, pastries, meats and cheese - it was plentiful. We were also offered a welcome drink of Port on arrival which was a nice touch. The staff here are exceptional, they were so warm and friendly each time we passed. The building is old and due to this there are no lifts (lots of stairs), staff carried our cases up the stairs and placed them in our room for our arrival. The guest house is in a fantastic location, right in the centre of Porto. You can reach Ribeira within 5 minutes and lies adjacent to R.das Flores (street with great bars and restaurants). If returning to Porto I would book here again as it was a very reasonable price for what was offered.

Pros + Great location, a couple of blocks from the water. + Nice sized room, comfortable bed, quiet (even facing the street). + Friendly staff, even willing to haul heavy luggage up steps. + Just enough breakfast to get the day started. Cons (I'll leave out the photos...) - Door handle to bathroom fell off just before bad and we were unable to enter all night - we ended up using the bathroom in the lobby. We texted and called off hours numbers (no on-site staff available late evening / overnight) but received no response. It was fixed the following day. - Shower head was broken, allowing only hand held use. When we reported this, they said they knew about it and were working on fixing it (which they did the same day). - Ants made their way into the room and enjoyed the cookie jar. Great old historic building with a fantastic location - it's a bummer that stuff happens. We wished for some sort of response to the off hours contact attempts, and some transparency on the shower head issue (knowing beforehand vs the morning of your shower are two different things...)
