Hotel São José

Thought it was very nice for the night we stayed. Staff was very friendly and helpful with storing our luggage before check in as we visited the city. Breakfast was decent, and enough variety including Pastel de Nata and juices. Close to the Mercado do Bolhao. Beautiful ceramic tile on the wall in the lounge. Nice spiral staircase. Older but elegant in many ways.

The staff were incredibly friendly and welcoming, but unfortunately my stay was not very comfortable. I ended up with several bug bites from the bed, the air conditioning wasn’t working properly, and there was very little sound insulation. You can hear everything from the surrounding rooms and hallways.

Good location but it's so noisy, you'll hear doors slamming all the time. There is no carpet to absorb the sound. Requested a quiet room but it's just not possible on a full floor with people going in and out. Rooms have hard mattresses that are not very comfortable, and no fridge or other amenities (coffee maker, etc). The lounge/bar area is always dark and empty and has a strange old smell. The price reflects the quality of rest you will get here. Otherwise the rooms have AC, staff is nice and rooms seem clean.

Good place for this money. Clean rooms. Great location, next to the metro station, close to the cathedral and many ships and cafe around. My friend and I booked room for 2 people but we got double room … with 1 big bed and 2 single beds, so both of us had more privacy, which was a nice surprise. Hotel is obviously old, but for this price we liked it.

This is the most terrible hotel I have ever seen in my life, room is dirty as hell, receptionist was not friendly at all. When I asked for the manager they told that they do not have one in the hotel, very poor English as well! It is the worst experience in my life, I strongly not recommend to stay in this hotel to anyone! No amenities in the room, even no water!
