4 / 5 Usually the place I stay in when I go to Porto. It's definitely not a high end hotel, but it has a small parking for cars and it is fairly nearby the center.
3 / 5 We booked this Hotel for a 3 night stay in Porto. The hotel is currently undergoing a refurbished, which explained the cheap price(we paid 149€ for 3 nights in a double room)
The breakfast was adequate. Seating was a problem at busy times.
The room itself was OK. Tired in decor and in need of an upgrade. Daily cleaning. However, the maid must have accidently dropped my electric toothbrush and on day 2 morning I found the on/off button was missing. I told the manager and he said he would investigate. Despite asking, I got no further response.
On the 2nd night there must have been a large group staying because at 0230 we were awakened by what sounded like a herd of elephants on the stairs!
4 / 5 Hotel Solar São Gabriel, the room isn't bad in Comparison with what I've seen somewhere else. And I've been informed that they start to refurbish and the roof has already started. Toilet is already refurbished and the rooms are on plans for next year. The breakfast is light but very delicious for the price paid for the stay.
The staff is very helpful and always willing to help as much as they can. Many thanks for the gentlemens at the reception which answered all my questions about where to go and what service to use.
Special thanks for receptionist Paulo for always help me out watching my reversing park as my parking with the rented car was always a disaster 😂.
Also for the cleaners and the ladies who served the breakfast, you guys a simple the best to you all (Receptionist, cleaners, kitchen staff) my review is 10********** You guys well deserve it.
And last but not list, Igor. this guy is the man, if any question or any problems he is the person that you need to contact and he will sort you out.
To all of you many thanks for my stay at your hotel.
Sincerely
A. G. Labuhn
4 / 5 If the bathroom was relatively recently refurbished, then the room itself has not seen a refurbishment for a very long time.
On a low car, you can catch on when you enter the parking lot.
The location is perfect, a few minutes to the center.
5 / 5 Very pleasant hotel. Welcoming staff: the breakfast staff as well as the front desk. The room was spacious and clean, loved their slim comforters/duvets, etxra covers in big closet, no safe in a room, but the hotel stores your luggage if you need to check out but want to explore. Hotel locks the main door all the time, which can be cumbersome? if you always go in and out, but it does provide safety as random people would not be able to enter. We had a large window into the breakfast courtyard which was lovely. Small wall tv with many English channels. The bathroom was nice with shampoo and soap. Good water pressure, the only concern in our room - water was draining slower than pressure in shower head. So we had to turn the water off, lather, allow for water to drain a bit and turn on the shower again, otherwise we would have flooded the bathroom floor within minutes not crazy annoying but something to be aware off. We got lucky and the hallways and in general was quite at late hours. Hotel felt safe. Breakfast is not the biggest but you will not leave hungry. We asked the kitchen for a kettle and they were able to locate one which was incredible. There is a main shopping street on the next block, landromat on the same street a few doors down. There are supermarkets and stores through out with very cheap but tasty desserts. Our favorite was Pingo Doce which is a lighter version of Eately style store/cafeteria. It's about 5-7 min walk from hotel on your way from center, entrance is on Rua de Passos Manuel and exits right on the street of the hotel (Rua da Alegria). Has the best variety/selection from surrounding shops, cheapest from what we have seen: food, and Portugal chocolates as souvenirs (chocolate here ~€0.80-€3, in airport €10 can make a dent if you have a big crowd to shop for).
