Invictus Hostel

We were very disappointed with our stay. People entered our private room even though we had repeatedly told them not to. While I was in the bathroom and my friend was on the bed, someone just came in, claiming to look for the reception, but that was clearly not true, and they stared at us. When a staff member finally came to check the door, he had trouble opening it. Let’s be clear: if someone enters your room uninvited, it is definitely not to “be nice” or anything like that. There are people living there, and they are not always safe. Two young girls alone could never feel safe in this environment. The reception was locked, calls were ignored, and we ended up booking another place because we didn’t feel secure. Meanwhile, suspicious people were walking on the floor outside our room. I was watching them while my friend stayed inside, and they only changed direction when they realized they were being observed. We cannot recommend this hostel. The lack of security and poor management made us feel unsafe, and the environment is not suitable for travelers who want privacy and peace of mind.

IT IS UNSAFE FOR WOMAN!!! I had a very disturbing experience in this hostel. I was placed in a room where I was the only woman, surrounded by Brazilian homeless men who openly sell drugs on the street. From the moment I entered the room, all of them stared at me and I immediately felt extremely uncomfortable and unsafe. The situation escalated when I went to take a shower. One of the men followed me and tried to watch me while I was showering. I felt threatened and scared. I reported this incident to the reception immediately, but the male receptionist completely dismissed my concerns. He said that everything was safe and did not care at all about what had just happened to me. This hostel does not take guest safety seriously, especially the safety of women. I would strongly advise anyone, particularly solo female travelers, to stay away from this place.

​I do not recommend it. This was the worst hostel I have ever stayed in. The room I was assigned was extremely cramped, essentially just a very narrow hallway, and looked nothing like the photos. The bathroom was dirty and smelly. The neighborhood was extremely noisy, with many bars nearby. The mattresses and pillows were horrible. The staff was unfriendly. And worst of all, in addition to the price advertised on the website, I had to pay an extra "tourist tax." In other words, for the total value I paid, I could have stayed somewhere much better.

We stayed at Invictus Hostel for one night in a 12-bed room. The location is great and the staff at reception were very nice and helpful. However, the worst part is that after just one night I came home covered in bites, around 30 in total, which are clearly from bedbugs. I contacted the hostel about it, and they replied that guests might bring bedbugs in their backpacks. Honestly, that is just an excuse. You do not get around 30 bites from one night if the problem did not already exist there. Really disappointed and it completely ruined the experience.

It’s hard to sleep at this hostel due to its location. There’s a lot of people in the bars that surround it, but the hostel itself isn’t built to muffle that sounds at all. There were a lot of bed bugs too, which needs to be reported and taken care of, because people in several rooms were bitten during my stay there. There was also someone who wasn’t a client at the hostel sleeping on the stairs, which made me and the people in my room feel unsafe. The only aspect that saves this hostel is its host, who was very nice and was able to clear a few issues that we had during our stay.
