Welcome to Poop Town Tired after a long day of walking in the sun? I hope you like the smell of steamy fermenting manure! Because the only albergue in town is drenched in this permeating aroma. Good thing you paid 16 euros per bed to feel like a sweaty cow. (Also the wifi doesn’t work.) You’re hungry too? We waited over two hours, paid 25 euro and didn’t receive bread, coffee, or desert in our “complete meal”. Felt like a huge scam for very low quality food. It was almost laughable how well they remembered what to charge us for, yet couldn’t remember to bring us any of it while we waited for hours. Situations like this are always so disappointing, and they didn’t even give a dang that they forgot it all. We asked to pay only for the parts of the dinner we received since they forgot about so much of it but they refused and we were charged in full. For the sake of your life trust me and avoid the stuffed peppers. These lifeless blobs are stuffed with what I can only describe as tuna water and little else. If you’re going to cook an endangered shark, at least make it taste like something. Pork chop about as thin as a credit card. Goodnight! Run while you can!
Albergue Monte Aro in Lago is clean and modern. 24 bunk beds in one large room upstairs. Disposable sheet and quilt provided. Kitchenette (micro, fridge), seating, laundry, four unisex shower/toilet rooms downstairs. Covered outdoor area. The bar serves meals at set times but is always open for drinks and snacks. Very friendly and helpful hosts.
Had to leave a review because of the extreme kindness shown by the wonderful owners of this albergue and restaurant. The warmth of everyone who works here set the tone for us pilgrims staying there that night. There was a fantastic pilgrims dinner, amazing breakfast, and very comfortable sleeping arrangements. Thank you for making this stop so lovely. Also, I made friends with your dog Lua--please give her a pat for me!:)
Quick breakfast was very good. Tasty coffee and fresh tortilla (4.8€ for bigger portion)
The owner of the shelter was incredibly kind. We arrived late, almost missing lunchtime. There weren’t any places along the way that served hot food, so my friend and I were both starving and thirsty. Thankfully, the owner still offered to make us a meal — we were so grateful. That warm soup as the starter truly warmed not just our bodies, but our hearts too. 😁💛
