Super friendly welcome, great service at dinner, nice rooms, good beds. Yes the walls are paper thin but everyone sleeps early so no problem, rather have a hospitable welcome and good food than a thicker wall! Good option for this town, stay here

We experienced a language barrier while booking. Having requested a private room/ private bath months in advance we arrived to a private room/ shared bath. We were provided a key but not shown to our rooms. Walls are very thin. You can hear everything going on. The street outside was very busy with tractors up till about 10am at night. Dogs barking in the neighbourhood kept us up. Very weak wifi. Overall and unfortunately this was not a pleasant stay for us.

Horrific experience. Waiter physically accosted my 61 yr old husband when confronted for his bad behaviour towards weary Pilgrims on a Camino. Served locals first even though we waited 20 minutes before. 2 people, 1 towel. Food included but no chef on site to cook. Save yourself the aggravation go somewhere else. We went to Albergue Perala which is outstanding and a mere $3 more. Well worth the cleanliness, treatment, food and experience. Following the reply….. Add liars to the list. The pilgrims were locals since they brought their dog and dog dish and the waiter knew them. The others were 2 women also friends. We did not cancel the room, in fact it stayed paid for and empty. We paid full for our new accommodation at the amazing Perala. Your reply should have started with our apologies. This review was honest and it’s a warning to weary pilgrims. And for the record your 30 something waiter did assault my 61 yr old husband.

We did not end up staying and forfeited our paid reservation. It was that bad. Ended up in a hotel of the same owners of previous evening. They had a hotel in bercianos as well. Super clean, and very friendly, courteous and respectful employees. Very happy we switched.

Hostal Rivero is located right on the Camino de Santiago de Compostela in the hamlet of Bercianos del Real Camino, quite a grand name for a tiny village without anything interesting. The hostal is housed in a building with a nice patio. The room we were given was was small and basically furnished but acceptably clean. However, a major problem was the total lack of acoustic insulation: you could hear every sound of the neighbouring rooms, and be heard as well I suppose. And I really mean everything: chats, sneezing, toilet flushing etc! We were lucky that our neighbours proved to be quite well behaved and we slept properly, but nevertheless we woke with their alarm, which rang earlier than ours! The hostal has also available a pilgrim menu, not too bad, and a very basic breakfast, with very limited quantity of food offered and a very unfavourable starting time at 8:30 am. As for the service, I rate the staff of Hostal Rivero the most unfriendly so far on the Camino: in the end they slowly do their job but always with a very annoyed and complacent attitude, apparently annoyed to have to deal with pilgrims! Quite a bad approach, considering that, barring the pilgrims, nobody in his/her own mind would even think of stopping at such a place! Not recommended.
