The hotel room was okay, nothing too nice and the lobby bathroom smelled like something died in it. I suggest staying in the actual town thats a 5 minute drive away, walking is on a dark highway road so its dangerous. The town is beautiful and there are so many nice hotels, walking distance to any restaurant or attraction. The worst part of this experience was the owner of this hotel (as he kept calling himself), he was very rude, it felt like he didn't want to be there. We booked through airbnb and he had the wrong address, so after setting up a meeting time. I called for half an hour and he did not answer, we were left on the side of the road dying to the bathroom. He finally answered and said he was conducting an interview. There were other incidences but honestly I'm so glad we just had to stay one night otherwise it would have been so depressing. If there is any proof of extraterrestrial life on Earth, its there, at the front desk of this hotel claiming to be the owner.

We stayed for three nights with three children between the ages of 5 and 9 and had a very comfortable stay. We arrived quite late, so we picked up the key at the Hotel San Marcos. All the staff we interacted with from start to finish were delightful. The center of Santillana del Mar is a pleasant walk of less than 15 minutes, sometimes passing cows and horses, which the children love to see. All in all, we really enjoyed our stay. The only downside I felt was that no matter how much you aired the apartment, it still had a peculiar smell, perhaps due to the wooden ceiling. However, everything was clean.
Our stay lasted four days, and everything was truly excellent. The apartments were modern, very well located, and in a quiet area just 500 meters from the old town of Santillana. The rooms and bathrooms were spacious and very clean. There was a living room with a kitchen and a terrace to enjoy the views. The staff was very friendly and attentive. We enjoyed the indoor pool, which was not very wide but long enough to swim a few laps. The fully equipped gym was right next door.
