The location of this hotel is great, just in the middle of the old town centre. Near lots of restaurants and cafés. The room was big but the furniture was a bit old fashioned and not very useful or comfy. The bed was normal size but the bed linen was a but old fashioned too. They still use old wool blankets. The light in the room and the toilet were also a bit fainted. The shower was great. Amenities consisted of some shower soap and shampoo envelopes and a shower cap. Breakfast was ok.
Gorgeous, old hotel. Comfortable interior, with medieval furnishings. Incredible location and very friendly staff. Would have loved to spend more time just exploring all the floors. They show an attempt at environmental consciousness, with notices requesting reuse of towels etc, but there's far too much single use plastic at breakfast, with many individually wrapped items, e.g olive oil portions and plastic pots of tomato.
My husband and I are cycling the Camino del Norte. Hotel Altamira was an overnight stop and our journey. Hotel Altamira was an overnight on our journey. Despite the jarring entry into Santillana Del Mar on very rough cobblestones, this hotel is the peaceful oasis of your dreams. Set in a 16th century building, the rooms are spacious, the bed comfortable, and the staff friendly and accommodating. The breakfast buffet was varied and plentiful, we left well sated and fueled for our long ride ahead. This hotel is a gem, stay here‼️

Looks amazing but sadly disappoints. The communal areas are wonderfully decorated and elegant. The rooms, or at least our room felt like a priests room. Very bare and cold. Just a bed with a table and lamp. Receptionist said she could not help me carry my bag up to the room, so I was forced to carry my suitcase up in one hand with my baby in the other hand. Could not sleep a wink because it was so noisy, noise from the street and also other guests walking around causing the floorboards to creek. The bathroom was modern and clean but they are very cheap with the soap, one small sachet of shower gel, and shampoo for a room with two guests and a baby. The amount of shower fell is not even enough for one person. You can’t even call down to reception to ask for more as there is no phone. Oh and one ply toilet paper! It’s like wiping with sandpaper! If I had a second chance I would have stayed someone else.
