Hotel Santillana

Great location for visiting the medieval town. Public rooms are full of atmosphere: polished wood, thick rugs, hundreds of clocks. Our room was comfortable if a little basic. Breakfast was excellent, the Receptionist super friendly and helpful, and we were able to park our motorbike in the private garage, which was a big plus for us.

Location fantastic for visiting the old city and caves. Rooms are a bit tired and pokey, but clean and good showers and wifi. Common lounges are gems with many period pieces on display. The food however is woeful. The worst value for money pizzas we have ever ordered. The breakfast was also basic, unappetising and soulless. Stay there but don't eat there.

We have done many other reviews (mostly on TripAdvisor) and in most cases, we are pretty generous - with many four and five star ratings. However, this place really doesn’t deserve more than one star. We only had a couple of beers each and shared a pizza. The prices were good and the pizza was very good. However, the staff were most unfriendly. Our Spanish is limited, but we try and be humble and use lots of “Gracias”. Everywhere we go, those are acknowledged and almost always do we receive a “de nada” and smile in return. Not here. Not a word and barely any eye contact. Not from any of the three different staff that served us. And it certainly wasn’t because they were busy, as it was a very quiet night and they were looking bored half the time.

This historic hotel was a delight to find! The staff is lovely and the antiques and wooden floors and furniture were charming. Loved the historic vibe while still having great amenities like wood and easy parking. Great experience!
