Historically, Azofra was a hub for the Knights Hospitaller, a medieval Catholic military order that provided care and protection to pilgrims. The order built a hospital in the village, which served as a refuge for weary travelers. Today, the Church of Nuestra Señora de los Ángeles stands as a testament to the village's past, with its 18th-century baroque façade and a statue of Saint James the Apostle, the patron saint of the Camino de Santiago.
