Public Albergue in Grandas

A great albergue, but unfortunately some pilgrims tried to be clever by reserving beds for friends who arrived earlier. All the lower bunk beds were already taken, and only the top bunks were left available. The albergue itself was clean, but the sink in the garden area used for washing clothes was very dirty. I couldn’t place my clothes there while washing them, so I had to wash everything by hand while holding them. The person in charge of the albergue was very welcoming and friendly. I’m giving 5 stars because of their hospitality and the overall cleanliness inside.

All perfect if you catch a bed. We had to leave at 6 to arrive here at 11. When the Albergue opened at 12:30 there were already people in line for all the beds.

This Albergue was a mixed experience. It’s okay cheap on the Camino for only 9€. Service: 4/5 The host that welcomed us was nice and helpful. Kitchen: 3/5 The kitchen was roomy and relatively equipped, we managed to cook with what little pots and pans there were available. It would be useful with some kitchen cloths and rags tho, for drying off after washing. The fridge however was broken and froze everything in it… a bit impractical… Communal areas: 5/5 The living room was nice and cosy. Okay acoustics. Dorms: 3/5 Beds were divided in two smaller dorm rooms. It was tight in there but all right. The mattresses however should have been replaced long ago, they are very run down and a little bit nasty. Bathrooms: 2/5 the men’s shower was ppporky designed, the handle broken and really difficult to adjust. Shower curtains didn’t work so water everywhere on the floor after. The door was also broken so people got stuck in there.

This albergue has relatively few power outlets, making it hard to charge electronics - they had to be charged downstairs in the public lounge, not near the beds. The showers were small. But the cost was relatively low and there was nice value to staying here.

Very nice place to stay during Camino Primitivo. Everyone was very kind, place was clean. They even have well supplied kitchen. I forgot my wallet there and owner was kind enough to send it to my next stop at different albergue via Caminotaxi.
