The place is ok for spending just a night of a couple of nights if you are traveling alone. Beds are comfortable and as every one is there to sleep and go at morning you get a rest there.
The hostel is very small; older people shouldn't even consider it because you won't have enough space in the bunk beds. I was very annoyed that at 10 am a guy was already running around with a vacuum cleaner, taking our belongings out of the bathroom, which I thought was very rude since check-in is at 11 am. I should have arrived then. He practically forced us all out; we didn't even have time to comb our hair or do anything. Check-in was very late and check-out very early. Plus, you can't sleep well because of the noise from the bars next door. The trash was overflowing, like it hadn't been taken out in about two weeks. It's a shame because the place is nice.
The hostel owner is extremely friendly over the phone, if you call for information. It's an apartment converted into a hostel, located in the center of Oviedo, next to the cathedral. Access is via a self-check-in service, so you don't have to wait for someone to be present or to be greeted with information or advice. There's a kitchen, but basic items like oil, salt, etc., often left by previous travelers, are missing. Unfortunately, if your goal is to rest, especially if you're tackling the first leg of the Camino de Santiago, this isn't really the place for you, as the hostel is located directly above two bars/nightclubs. From 10 p.m. onward, there's a constant flow of people coming and going, and the noise in the street is incredibly loud until at least 4 a.m. Bottom line: it's impossible to sleep even with the windows closed! The music from the bar shakes the walls and floor. When the bars close at 4 a.m., people start coming home, and shortly afterward, the street cleaners start working, making a lot of noise. The value for money is consequently poor, especially considering you can't sleep even with earplugs! I thought I should get a refund, but my request was obviously ignored.
The hostel is nice, well-maintained, and pretty, but very impersonal. It feels very cold on a personal level. You never actually interact with anyone from the hostel. Everything is done via email and login codes. Any questions you might want to ask feel like a chore. The beds are very comfortable, but the ceiling is incredibly low. You can't even sit up in bed. The bathroom is very nice and clean, as are the common room and bedrooms.
TERRIBLE HOSTEL. Please don't waste your money at this hostel. My friend and I were there to do the Camino de Santiago, and a drunk guy got into the room where we were sleeping and slept in the bunk below my friend. He smelled of alcohol and was very noisy, and my friend had such a bad time that he almost left and went somewhere else to sleep (he didn't sleep at all that night). The space where the bunks are was also very small, there's no ventilation, and with the windows open, you can hear all the street noise. Laura, the girl who checked us in at first, was fine, but then when we tried to talk to her about all this, she wouldn't answer her phone or reply to messages. PLEASE don't waste your money at this hostel; it's very expensive for what it is. They won't even take responsibility for addressing the hostel's problems.
